Description
B. i zoo°, allgemein befriedigende Ergebnisse erzielen lassen. Heating Heat for Steels The present invention relates to E.rhitzungs@bäder "i.e. carbonaceous iron alloys. Such steels are in practice to higher temperatures: heated to anneal, harden, to start or to bring about other structural changes, also to solder, weld, to cut and the like, m. _ In these cases occurs when using the usual baths generally a disruptive decarburization effect on the material to be treated: a. For this purpose, heating baths have been proposed which contain barium chloride and alkali chlorides, borax, pyrophosphates and the like, and especially difficult to melt ones Metal oxides such as magnesium oxide or aluminum oxide contain. These bathrooms offer However. Difficulties in that the tile is only used at particularly high temperatures, z. B. i zoo °, generally satisfactory results can be achieved. But you want to use these baths for lower temperatures, which in practice for many cases is required, the metal oxides mentioned, such as magnesium oxide, are excreted, settle on the bottom of the crucible and cause breakthroughs and others Operational disruptions.
It is known to use chloride baths as molten salt baths for hardening and annealing to use steels in which these chloride baths still contain small amounts of impurities included, such as' z. B. sulfides, 5u1- 'pate, phosphates, carbonates, oxides and others slagging ingredients. These impurities are caused by the addition of z. B. charcoal decomposes and completely removed, so that the molten salt baths when applied no impurities, especially no phosphates, their presence considered harmful: contain.
In contrast, it has now been found that heating baths for steels, the essentially halides of the alkali and alkaline earth metals individually or in contain any combinations, are particularly effective when they are im. Melt flow contain acidic phosphates. - It is important that for extensive absence of infusible or metal compounds that are insoluble in the melt, such as. Magnesium oxide, care is taken. It is essential that (3 those mentioned high-melting substances or substances that are insoluble in the melt, such as magnesium oxide or Aluminum oxide, completely or largely kept away from the bathroom. This feature was by no means obvious, because in older methods the Addition of the substances mentioned to reduce the effect of any acidic substances present To mitigate or regulate components on the workpieces to be treated.
It has been shown that the new baths in their beneficial effect, especially with regard to the suppression of decarburization, the older baths are absolutely equivalent.
The new baths have the advantage that they can also be used at lower Temperatures, e.g. B. at zoo to iooo`, can be used without causing operational disruptions and thereby excellent and consistent effects on the metal objects to be treated own.
The essential components of the new heating baths are halides, such as B. Chlorides of alkali and alkaline earth metals. There come z. B. Consider: Sodium chloride, sodium bromide, potassium chloride; Lithium chloride, barium chloride, strontium chloride. You can use these substances individually or in any combination; in the latter case, you have it in your hand by choosing the right mix components and their quantities to produce low-viscosity melts even at lower temperatures. It is also essential that the new baths have an acidic effect in the melt Contain phosphates. So you can z. B. add .: primary or secondary Phosphates of the alkali or alkaline earth metals, furthermore any simple or mixed ones Ammonium phosphates, pyrophosphates, metal phosphates, free phosphoric acid and the like. The like. The proportions of the individual components can vary within wide limits will. In general, it is advisable not to add too much phosphates to choose. A content of phosphate ions up to an amount of about i o o; 'o des total bath weight is generally sufficient. Recommended in many cases it is appropriate to fix this content at about 1 to 5%. With prolonged use can it can happen that the phosphate content of the melt decreases. U in always constant and to achieve beneficial effects, it is advisable to use the bath in such cases from time to time the phosphates mentioned - on their own or in a mixture with other bath components to be fed to the melt.
