Description
Fig. 2) oder unter (s. Fig. 4). Die Imprägnierung schreckt die Termiten auch auf weite Entfernung ab.Termites get to the wood of buildings and structural parts etc. by climbing up on the foundations or bases or feet or by eating their way through passages. Attempts have therefore been made to isolate the wooden parts by placing insulating strips or insulating caps made of sheet metal over the foundations, etc., the edges of which protrude outward and are bent downwards. There are also known designs in which the free edge of the climbing protection is bent twice inward, so that a groove for receiving a wick is formed. Another embodiment consists in that a plurality of metal sheets are placed one on top of the other, the free edges being peeled apart. Yet another embodiment uses layers of cardboard impregnated with a termite repellent instead of the metal sheets. However, there are disadvantages to all of these designs. Such protective means made of sheet metal are not only very expensive, but are also difficult to repair and only specially trained workers are able to adapt them to the cross-sections of the foundations, etc. They are also subject to the effects of corrosion. On moving parts, such as furniture feet, the horizontal surface is chafed through, or it has to be made so strong that it is pressed into the floor due to its rigidity. It has now been found that one can avoid these disadvantages} when assigning the climbing protection and protection against climbing by two basic elements, others of which can be easily replaced one or as needed. Exemplary embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing. One element, the climbing protection, is designed in a manner known per se as a sheet metal strip, which has a protruding, obliquely downward edge. Depending on the particular requirements, the sheet metal strip can be placed over (see FIG. 2) or under (see FIG. 1 and 3) the surface element, or it can also be designed as a plate with a perforated base (see FIG. 4). The other, the surface element, is a board made of wood, fiber, cardboard or felt, which is impregnated with asphalt, bitumen, Karbolineum Avenarius, arsenic or other termite-repellent substances. The load resting on this insulating body presses climbing protection and insulating plate so strongly against one another that there is no longer any room for termites to climb through. The impregnation also scares off termites from long distances.
