Es ist weiter Geben.-stand der Erfindung, einen isolierenden üb:erzug zu schaffen, der die Fähigkeit hat, so zu isolieren, daß ein besonderer Überzug für den Gesamtkern überflüssig wird und das Zusammenkleben der Bleche während der Glühung verhindert. Zur Durchführung der Erfindung werden 2o Gewichtsteile Vermiculit, welches ein Aluminium-Magnesium-Silicat ist und unter dem Handelsnamen »Zonalit« bekannt ist, mit ungefähr ioo Gewichtsteilen Wasser vermischt. Die fein verteilte Masse wird dadurch erhalten, daß der Ausgangsstoff in einem auf ungefähr i i oo° C erhitzten Ofen expandiert. Es ergibt sich dabei eine körnige, honsgwabenartige Masse, die beim plötzlichen Abkühlen in einen beständigen gummiartigen Zustand übergeht. Das innige Vermischen von Wasser und Vermiculit wird durch Vermahlen bewirkt, welches so lange durchgeführt wird, bis die festen Bestandteile in fein verteiltem Zustande eine Suspension in Wasser von der Konsistenz der Malerfarbe ergeben. Den Zustand erreicht man am besten in Kugelmühlen, in welchen die Mischung 2o bis 2.4 Stunden behandelt wird. Das Vermiculit wird durch ein 6oer-Maschensieb gegeben und liegt nach dem Vermischen in der Kugelmühle als kleine flache blättchenartige Kristalle vor. Die wäßrige Verm.iculitmischung stellt sozusagen eine Wasserfarbe dar. Es kann auf die Stahlbleche mit Hilfe einer Bürste aufgetragen oder durch Aufspritzen oder aber auch mit Hilfe von Gummiwalzen aufgebracht und dann bei einer genügend hohen Temperatur im Ofen getrocknet werden. Die so überzogenen Bleche lassen sich in üblicher Weise glühen, d. h. sie können in Form eines Paketes in einen Ofen, der eine Temperatur von ungefähr 875' aufweist und in welchem entweder Luft oder eine neutrale Gasatmosphäre vorhanden ist, eingeführt werden. Der auf siliciumhaltigen Stahlblechen aufgebrachte Vermiculitüberzug bietet eine hohe Isolation zwischen den benachbarten Schichten und zeigt sehr geringe Wattverluste. Diese Verringerung der Wattverluste ergibt sich aus der Tatsache, daß der Überzug eine Oxydation auf den Blechen verhindert. Ferner verhindert der Überzug das Zusammenkleben der Bleche während der Glühung. Das Vermiculit bildet einen sehr dichten, nicht abreibbaren Überzug und zeigt einen Oberflächenisolationswiderstand, welcher sowohl in Luft und heilem öl größer ist als die in bekannter Weise isolierten Bleche. Die Vertniculitisolierung bildet einen sehr dünnen Überzug und hat daher auch beim Transformatorenaufbau einen hohen Füllfaktor zur Folge. Das Vermiculit verbindet sich offenbar wähd der Glühung mit der natürlichen Zunrschicht auf dem Bleche und ruft auf -diese Weise einen hochisolierenden Überzug hervor.
