Description
Process for the preparation of x-dimethylaminoacrylic acid nitrile It has been found that a-dimethylaminoacrylic acid nitrile from ß-chloro- or bromoacetaldehyde cyanohydrin can be obtained in good yield by the action of dimethylamine. The course of this novel implementation is surprising. It was to be expected that not only the hydroxyl group, but also the halogen can be replaced by an amino group would. Surprisingly, this does not occur, but the amine cleaves in this Fall at the same time it replaces the hydroxyl group, hydrogen halide away. The result is the previously unknown ca-dimethylaminoacrylic acid nitrile.
The amine residue must be in the a-position, as it is during the treatment of the oc-dimethylaminoacrylic acid nitrile with water with elimination of hydrocyanic acid Dimethylacetamide could be obtained in a yield of over 50/0. The education of the amide can only be understood if an α-aminonitrile is present.
Die Ausbeute beträgt 66,50,!a. KP. 75g =z48,5 °.Α-Dimethylaminoacrylic acid nitrile is a valuable intermediate for pharmaceutical purposes, textile auxiliaries and plastics. Examples e.g. To 2.11 g of a-oxy-ß-chloropropionitrile (available according to the information in the reports of the Deutsche chem. Gesellschaft Vol. 5g, p. 2400 by reacting chloroacetaldehyde with anhydrous hydrocyanic acid in the presence of some potassium cyanide and vacuum distillation to blunt the alkali 270 g of dimethylamine in 52% aqueous solution are allowed to drip into a 50% aqueous solution with vigorous stirring. The temperature in the flask is kept between 0 and + 5 ° by cooling. The reaction has ended after 2 hours. Two layers have formed. The upper, light-colored layer is separated off, dried and distilled in vacuo. Between 63 and 64 ° at 40 mm mercury pressure, 127.5 g of ac-dimethylaminoacrylic acid nitrile pass over. The yield is 66.50,! A. Other small amounts of the nitrile can be obtained from the lower, aqueous layer by known means. Dimethylacetamide is formed as a by-product. Nitrile is a water-clear, easily mobile liquid that gradually changes color when standing in air. It smells strongly of bitter almond oil. It is easily soluble in the common organic solvents and sparingly soluble in water. At 22 'it has the specific gravity of o, goo. The nitrile can be distilled without significant losses even at ordinary pressure. KP. 75g = z48.5 °.

Ausbeute 56,70/,.2. 54o cc of a solution which is obtained when 16o cc of anhydrous hydrocyanic acid, to which a little potassium cyanide has been added, is stirred with 300 g of chloroacetaldehyde in 300 cc of water at temperatures not exceeding 7 °, it is allowed to add i2ioccm of a 52% aqueous solution Solution of dimethylamine drops. The temperature in the flask is kept between 0 and + 5 ° by cooling. The reaction has ended after 11 /, hours. Two layers have formed, the top of which is separated, dried and distilled in vacuo. 294.2 g of ac-dimethylaminoacrylic acid nitrile are obtained, which distills at 40 mm between 62 and 64 '. Yield 56.70 /.
To 650 cc of an aqueous solution of dimethylamine, corresponding to 6 moles of dimethylamine, 2 mole g of β-chlorolactic acid nitrile, 2 moles, are allowed to flow at a temperature of 35 to 50 °. The mixture is stirred for a further 20 minutes, allowed to settle and the two liquid layers formed are worked up as in Example i. There are 300 /, the theory of ac-Dimethylaminoacrylsäurenitrü from KP. 40 = 62 to 64 'obtained.
In order to avoid losses of dimethylamine, one can also be present only small amounts of water work in the pressure vessel, depending on the composition of the mixture and the temperature corresponding, in this case only low pressure adjusts. If only small amounts of water are present, cooling is carried out after completion the reaction reduces the content to about 5 ° and adds as much water with cooling in addition, that a clear stratification is created.
