Description
The sleep te of hand weapons, such as the butts of rifles, are known to be made entirely of wood. For the durability of these parts of the weapon it is of crucial importance that the wood used is as tension-free and crack-free as possible and that the wood absolutely retains its shape when it is finished. For this reason, only woods that are completely dried out can be used for the manufacture of handguns. All attempts that have so far been made with artificial drying processes have led to more or less negative results, and it was therefore necessary to store the wood for a very long time ( sometimes up to 10 years)
Object of the invention is a dry process with which it is possible to meet the extraordinarily high requirements that to meet the timbers for the stocks of handguns, without as long drying times are required as before.
The invention is based on the method already known for drying wood, in which the wood to be dried is exposed to the action of electrical fields that of alternating voltages of very high frequency, corresponding to a wavelength from about S to 50 m.
-As tests have shown, this method allows the wood to be brought to the drying limit in a relatively short time, ie in times of a few hours, which is required in the manufacture of the stocks of handguns. This method is particularly important for the last part of the drying process, so for the part in which the degree of drying has to be brought to a value of about ioo / 0 moisture. -
The invention consists in the further embodiment: this known process and its adaptation to the special requirements, which occur during the drying of the stocks of handguns. According to the invention the plate-shaped electrodes, which are longitudinally closed in the high-frequency generator, are dimensioned in such a way that the shaft to be dried is completely separated from the electrical Field 'is surrounded. Furthermore, additional bodies are at the ends of the body to be dried arranged that .cause. that in idem there are no temperature differences between the body to be dried.
Die Elektroden sindIn the method according to the invention, the wooden raw body, which is already for the later shape of the stock or rifle butt is pre-machined, between plattenföirmiga Electrodes are brought in, as is usually the case when drying other objects the end; Wood is known. The electrodes are
,<S'*h ■·.connected to the poles of a high frequency generator. There is no contact between the electrodes and the wood; Power lines are therefore avoided. , <S '* h ■ ·.
Dadurch, daß die Plattenelektroden erfiri-* dungsgemäß so< bemessen sind, daß 'der Heizkörper vollkommen von dem elektrischen Feld umgeben bzw. von ihm durchsetzt wird, wird der Vorteil erreicht, daß in allen TeilenDue to the fact that the plate electrodes properly dimensioned so that the radiator is completely surrounded by or penetrated by the electric field, the advantage is achieved that in all parts
Stoff hergestellt wie der zu trocknende Gegenstand und erhalten auch etwa die Gestalt, 'die dieser Gegenstand an seinen Enden besitzt.ίο the wood body a largely uniform Field distribution occurs and that caused by the electrical losses in the wood body The resulting warming is largely uniform over the cross-section des, wood distributed. This requirement of the most uniform possible temperature in the individual parts of the wood body during the drying process is even higher Grade, thereby taken into account 'that according to the invention at the ends of the body to be dried; Additional body arranged which have the effect that there are no temperature differences in the body to be dried appear. This measure ensures that in the middle of a body greater linear expansion, exactly the same temperature prevails as at the ends of this Body. Due to the additional body, the wood cross-section is directed towards its ends lengthened to a certain extent. The additional bodies are expediently made of the same. material manufactured like the object to be dried and also get roughly the shape, 'the this object possesses at its ends.
It has been shown that with a body of greater length expansion at the ends temperature drops always occur during only from a certain point along the body can the temperature be uniform. By means of preliminary tests, the additional bodies can be designed in such a way that temperature sinks occur only in these additional bodies, while the object to be dried is always on the same level even along its entire length Temperature is maintained.
5sThe arrangement of additional bodies also has the advantage that through them Introducing thermometers temperature measurements can be made allow conclusions to be drawn about the temperature of the object to be dried. With this measurement method it is avoided that 'the object to be dried for the purpose of introduction is drilled by thermometers. 5s
