Abstract

A conventional monomode laser diode (12) with a wavelength modulator (14) maintaining constant temp. produces basic radiation (Bas(t)) from which a measurement beam and a reference beam are separated by a glass plate (16a) and measured by, e.g. InGaAs photodiodes (22,24). The measurement signal (Mes(t)) is divided (26) by the reference signal (Ref(t)), the quotient having a variable AC portion and an invariant DC portion. These are sepd. (28,30) and the AC portion is divided (32) by the DC portion to obtain a value (p(t)) for the coefft. of absorption by the gas.
