Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a measurement precision, by a method wherein a device is constituted such that an output of a detector sensing to only an excited light is deducted from an output of a detector sensing to photoluminescence and an excited light. CONSTITUTION:For example, InP/InGaAsP/InP sample (wavelength 1.3mu) is irradiated via a chopper 2 with an excited light from a YAG laser 1. Photoluminescence and a part of the excited light are caused to pass through a lens 4, and afte the excited light is selectively damped to about 1/1,000 by means of a filter 5, it is caused to branch through the working of a semitransparent film 6 and to enter into Ge photo diode 7 and an Si photo diode 8. A difference in output between the Ge and Si photo diodes 7 and 8 is found by an operation circuit 10 through an amplifier, whose gain is properly regulated, to send the output to a recorder 11. This improves a measurement precision of a photoluminescence strength.
