Abstract

The synchronous motor has magnetic slabs (5) positioned radially in azimuth in the motor rotor (4) which is circular in shape. The motor stator (1) has a number of cut-away sections (2) to hold the coil windings (3). There is a magnetic gap (8) between the rotor and stator. The magnets create a magnetic path cross the magnetic gap which is closed by a path (F3) in the inner rotor section. The reluctance path produces the required 90 degree phase advance without demagnetising the magnets. <IMAGE>
