Form vorliegenden Ausgangsstoffen.Process for the production of compact metallic magnesium by reducing oxidic magnesium compounds The subject of the patent 653 575 is a process for the production of pure magnesium metal from raw magnesium or from magnesium-rich starting materials or waste materials, in particular pulverized magnesium, by uninterrupted distillation, in particular by uninterrupted vacuum distillation, in the presence of an inert or reducing gas with condensation of the vapors in the form of a liquid precipitate. What is new is that the liquid condensate is allowed to drip into the hydrocarbon oil that has already been introduced and the purified magnesium grains thus formed are expediently discharged together with the oil. The process of this prior patent solves the problem of obtaining the purest magnesium by redistillation of raw magnesium or of impure magnesium-containing waste or residues or of dusty condensates from previous distillations or from a previous reduction of Mg0 with coal; in all of these cases it is a question of the further purification of starting materials which are already present in metallic form.
