(vgl. Becker, »Hochschmelzende Hartstoffe und ihre , technische Anwendung«, Verlag
Chemie 1c933).Contact Material for Electrical Devices The invention relates to
on a contact material for electrical switches, switch pins, welding electrodes
for spot welds and related devices where the deletion of a
occurring arc is desired. According to the invention, it consists of sintered,
refractory borides of metals of the 4th, 5th or 6th group of the periodic
Systems. It is known (1a (3 the borides of the q .., 5th and 6th group of the periodic
Systems have better electrical conductivity than pure metals.
(See Becker, "Hochschmelzende Hartstoffe und their, technical application", publisher
Chemistry 1c933).
These borides, known as hard metals, have been used as luminous bodies
and has also made contacts using tungsten carbide. Boride can
but by no means simply replace the carbides in hard alloys. and practical
one cannot speak of an equivalence of the borides with the carbides. Important
is the surprising effect that the sintered high-melting borides
metals of the 4th, 5th or 6th group of the periodic table have a strong eutionizing effect
'' Have an effect on an arc due to the low dissociation of the metal borides.
This effect is achieved through the use of metal borides as a contact material in devices,
in which the extinction of an occurring arc is desired, made usable.
The invention thus has nothing to do with a proposal after
a resistor made of pure boron with contact terminals made of tungsten or Molyi) dan chemically
is to be connected, since metal borides are not used in devices,
where the extinction of an arc is desired.
The production of the material for switch pins, contacts, welding electrodes
for spot welds etc. takes place in the sintering process. The starting material, a
suitable boride of a metal of the ¢., 5th or 6th group of the periodic system,
for example tungsten boride, is sintered at a temperature below iSoo °.
The pores of the sintered piece are then covered with copper, silver or something else
electrically conductive material filled, so that the contact material about
10 to 60 ° 9 "of these metals. The production is otherwise carried out as
those of the known or welding electrodes.
The invention provides a higher level of performance
with your new contact
Material equipped devices reached.
Any undesired arc that may arise causes that on the surface
of the contact piece a breakdown of the metal boride takes place. The free boron connects
due to its high chemical affinity with oxygen, causing the electric arc
Energy is withdrawn and a strong deionizing effect occurs. The arcs
is thereby: brought to extinction very quickly. Switch pins, their work surface
have a contact material according to the invention, are therefore particularly suitable
for high and low voltage water, air and expansion switches.
besteht. It is of course not required; all parts, e.g. B. one
Switch or a relay, made from the metal borideri, but it lies
within the scope of the invention that only the working surface of the device from the new contact material
consists.
