The patent 892 194 relates to a gas or vapor-filled electrical discharge tube with a solid: metal electrode which is in contact with an ignition electrode which consists of a material of high specific resistance or is provided with a poorly conductive or non-conductive coating. The present invention, which relates to a further development of the discharge tube according to the main patent, makes use of the fact that the use of solid cathodes makes it possible in a simple manner to arrange a plurality of cathodes isolated from one another in a discharge tube. The invention relates to a gas or vapor-filled electrical discharge tube according to patent 892 194 and consists in that several, preferably two, solid metal electrodes serving as cathodes, with which ignition electrodes are in contact, are provided in the discharge tube.
Discharge vessels with several fixed 'electrodes serving as cathodes
are already known per se: In contrast. to these known discharge vessels,
in which hot cathodes are used that only have a limited peak load
allow, the discharge vessels according to the invention have the advantage that they
can briefly absorb very high load currents. The discharge vessels according to the invention
are therefore advantageous as surge arresters. But also for others
Purposes in which briefly strong currents occur, e.g. B. in the control of
Welding currents, the discharge vessels according to the invention can advantageously be used
will.
Solid amalgams are expediently used as the material for the cathodes
or solid metals with an amalgam coating, in which the ignition electrodes are inserted or
be put on. In the manufacture of the cathodes, one can advantageously use the following
How to proceed: The cathode is first made of a solid metal, e.g. B. copper,
Gold or gold-plated copper, manufactured and after installation in the vessel by eddy current heating
degassed. Only now is there a low level of distillation in the evacuated vessel
Amount of mercury introduced, which partially coats the cathode with amalgamation.
The arc discharges that occur during operation of the vessel then predominantly take place
in a mercury vapor atmosphere. But noble gases can also be added
will.
In the single figure of the drawing is an overvoltage protection device
shown in which an inventive. Discharge vessel is used.
It is intended to protect the operating network, which consists of lines i and 2, from over-voltages
to be protected. A discharge vessel designed according to the invention is used for this purpose
3 is provided, which is connected to lines i and 2. The discharge vessel
3 has the fixed amalgamated electrodes 4 and 5, with which the ignition electrodes
6 and 7 are in contact. When overvoltages occur between the lines
i and 2 takes place according to the polarity of these overvoltages via the ignition spark gaps
8 or 9; each consisting of a tip and a plate, an actuation of the ignition electrode
6 or: 7. This ignites the discharge between electrodes 4 and 5.
