Beim Antrieb von Hobelmaschinen durch polumschaltbare Elektromotoren wird beim Umsteuern stets die Wicklung für niedrige Drehzahl eingeschaltet, damit beim Drehrichtungswechsel, der durch Gegenstrom erfolgt, möglichst geringe Schwungmassen zu vernichten sind. Beim Umschalten des Motors von der hohen Drehzahl auf die niedrige Drehzahl traten aber große Stromstöße und große Bremsdrehmomente auf.
