Description

Process for chrome tanning Be used for chrome tanning in a single bath process hitherto chromium salts of inorganic acids or aliphatic acids such as formic acid and oxalic acid are used. Also addition of fatty acid derivatives (Turkish red oils) the tanning is known.

In order to obtain leather with certain properties, e.g. great fullness, chrome tanning is often used in conjunction with vegetable tanning or synthetic tanning agents.

Danach setzt man eire Lösung von basischem Chromsulfat ;Cr ( O H I SO" entsprechend -() Teilen Lr,0.., hinzu. It has now been found that, without the use of other tanning agents, particularly full chrome leathers can be obtained if pelts are treated in a known manner with chromium salts of polybasic, non-tanning, aromatic acids. Suitable acids for this purpose include, for example, phthalic acids and naphthalenedisulphonic acids and their substitution products. The chromium salts of these acids can, depending on the type of polybasic organic acid used, e.g. B. obtained by reacting their alkali salts with neutral or basic chromium sulfate. In some cases it is also possible to proceed in such a way that pelts are pre-treated with one component and post-treated with the other and the treatment is repeated if necessary. The tanning is quick and easy. If so desired, the pelts can easily be incorporated ro ofo chromium oxide (based on the finished leather) in conjunction with the appropriate amount of aromatic acids. So z. For example, when tanning in a short liquor, an increase in weight and volume of the leather of 2oo / o and more can be achieved, so that full leather with the character of a combination tanning can be obtained in a simple manner. Pimples, dulling at the end of the tanning or deacidification of the pelts, z. B. before dyeing, is unnecessary if the liquor is suitably basic, especially if the chromium salts of weak aromatic acids are used. Example r 222 parts of phthalic anhydride are dissolved in water with the addition of 120 parts of sodium hydroxide and neutralized against litmus, whereupon 450 to 500 parts of chrome alum are added to the solution. In this solution (80% of the pelt weight) one carries @ decalcified sheep pelts and treats them in the usual way in the single bath tanning process. If necessary, a little soda is added to the tanning broth towards the end of the tanning process to achieve the cooking quality. example lrt8Teile1'iii1111s; itii-catilivdrid ltel'dcli tlliter Addition V ) il @O.
