Als fixierende Zusätze zu Haarbehandlungsmitteln, Haarfestlegemitteln, Haarkräuselflüssigkeiten u. dgl. sind die natürlichen Harze als verfestigende Bestandteile nicht ohne weiteres brauchbar, da sie entweder in den für diese Zwecke üblichen Mitteln, wie Spiritus u. dgl., nicht löslich sind oder sich mit den übrigen Komponenten derartiger Mittel nicht vertragen oder unter dem Einfluß der Atmosphärilien Veränderungen erleiden und zur Schuppenbildung neigen. Man hat deshalb für derartige Zwecke bisher in erster Linie Benzoe verwendet, welches als natürlicher Bestandteil bestimmter Balsame in der Natur vorkommt.
