Description
Zur Ausführung des Verfahrens bedient man sich einer Spaltlampe, die einenThe invention relates to a method and a device for determining the protein content iii the anterior chamber fluid of an eye to be examined, since the determination the changing protein content in the anterior chamber water the course of an iris inflammation of the eye can be recognized. To carry out the process, a slit lamp is used
According to the invention, a part of the beam is weakened in its luminance by optical means until the luminance of the Tyndall effect generated by it in the cornea of the eye is equal to the Tyndall effect generated in the anterior chamber water of the eye by the rest of the beam . Since the protein content in the cornea can be assumed to be sufficiently constant in such an examination of the eye, the Tyndall luminance also remains sufficiently constant within the cornea, and since it is significantly greater than the Tyndall luminous density occurring in the anterior chamber fluid, so does not from the size of the light attenuation. determine the protein content of the anterior chamber water. As has now been established, the Tyndall luminous thickness in the anterior chamber water changes in a range from 1 to 1000 depending on the protein content the light beam exiting the lamp is allowed to change in its luminance approximately in a ratio of r to 1000. This light-absorbing plate consists most expediently of two gray glass wedges which can be moved towards one another. Instead of a light-absorbing plate of variable effective thickness, a plurality of plates of different light absorption can also be attached to the slit lamp with the aid of a changing device. These light-absorbing plates are expediently graded from ο to 3 photopters, with ι photopters having a transmittance of 1 J 10 , 2 photopters a transmittance of 1 ^ 100 and 3 photopters a transmittance of Viooo. It is particularly advantageous to use light-absorbing plates graded according to V 4 photoptics, since the measurement errors which are unavoidable during the measurement are below the attenuation value of a quarter photopter. The changing device for these plates of different light absorption can consist of a slide that contains the individual gray glass plates arranged next to one another and is guided in a slide provided on the slit lamp housing, or it is designed as a rotatable disc that contains the gray glass plates in a radial arrangement.

To determine the protein content in the anterior chamber water of an eye to be examined, a Gullstrand slit lamp is used according to Fig. The slit lamp lens 4 is used to image a slit ζ provided in the beam path at the point of the eye to be examined. 6, which is observed with a binocular microscope 8 provided with two objectives 7. In front of the gap 5, on the head wall 9 of a lamp housing 10, a disk 11 is rotatably arranged about a pin 12 and is provided with thirteen radially extending slots 13. With the exception of one slit 13 ', these slits are so far covered with gray glass plates 14 graded according to quarter photoptres of 1 ^ ^ s 3 photoptres that only a certain part of the beam can emerge from the slit lamp without being weakened. The attenuation values of the gray glass plates 14 are recorded in photoptres on round glass plates 15 located between the slits 13. In the head wall of the lamp housing 10 'a window 16 is provided next to the gap, in front of which the number plate 15 of the gray glass plate 14 located just in front of the gap 5 lies and is illuminated by the light source r so that the observer has the opportunity at any time the photoptric value of the upstream gray glass 14 can be read off directly.
When using the device, after switching on the light source 1 +5, the eye 6 to be examined is aligned so that the beam enters the anterior chamber 17 of the eye and the real slit image is drawn approximately on the anterior surface 18 of the eye lens. The section of the eye 6 shown in Fig. 1 and a plane containing the axes of the two microscope objectives 7 actually lie in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the drawing and containing the main axis of the slit lamp. By means of a gray glass plate 14 located in front of the gap 5, the bundle of rays in the vicinity of the real gap image is broken down into two parts which are clearly distinguishable from one another in terms of brightness. The measurement of the protein content is now carried out in such a way that the disk 11 is rotated with the Jfahd until such a gray glass site has been found at which the Tyn- - f -uall luminance of the attenuated beam bundle in the Cornea 19 is equal to the Tyndall luminance of the undamped bundle of rays in the anterior chamber water 17. The attenuation value is then read from the window 16, which is a measure of the protein content in the anterior chamber water of the eye.
