Die Herstellung von Celluloi'dbällen erfolgte ursprünglich in der Weise, dafs zwei halbkugelförmige Schalen einfach mit stumpfem Stofs an einander gekittet wurden. Bei diesen Bällen sprangen die beiden Hälften meist jedoch schon nach sehr kurzer Zeit aus einander. Es wurde dem Uebelstande dadurch abzuhelfen gesucht, dafs der Stofs entweder mit einer streifenförmigen Unterlage versehen (Fig. 1), oder dafs die Kugel in mehrere, z. B. vier Sectoren zerlegt und die Vereinigung derselben unter Ueberblattung hergestellt wurde (Fig. 2). Aber auch diese Arten der Verbindung bieten auf die Dauer keine Sicherheit, aufserdem ist die erstgenannte Art nicht controlirbar und überhaupt nicht mit Sicherheit ausführbar, die zweite Art ist umständlich und zufolge der Vermehrung der Verbindungsstellen unnütz theuer. In Anwendnng auf halbkugelförmige Schalen bietet diese letztere Art keine gröfsere Sicherheit als die erstgenannte Verbindung mit streifenförmiger Unterlage; aufserdem verbleibt am Stofs stets eine deutlich abgesetzte Rille, welche das Festsetzen von Schmutztheilen begünstigt. Durch Anwendung eines geeigneten Bindemittels haften die Zähne an der anderen Ballhälfte fest.
