Description
Process for the local change of the dyeing properties of textiles made of natural cellulose of any origin and pretreatment. British Patent 353 978 describes a process for the production of cellulose esters, which consists in that textiles made of natural or reprecipitated cellulose are treated with an aliphatic acid anhydride while maintaining their structure in the presence of a potassium salt of a weak acid and in the absence of one. esterified acidic catalyst. In this patent it is pointed out that the esterification can also take place locally by applying a printing paste containing potassium acetate locally to the goods and exposing the goods treated in this way to the action of an aliphatic acid anhydride. Subsequent dyeing, for example with the customary water-insoluble acetate silk dyes, shows that the printed areas show a significantly greater affinity for these dyes than the unprinted areas. While this method of working z. B. for rayon from reprecipitated cellulose is very well suited, is obtained on textiles made of natural cellulose, z. B. on cotton fabric, much less pronounced contrasts. It has now been found that it is possible in a simple manner to achieve a local, pronounced change in their dyeing properties even on textiles made of natural cellulose of any origin or pretreatment, if weaker soothing agents are first applied to the goods, optionally with the addition of alkali salts Acids, are applied locally (for example by normal pressure or spray pressure) and then the entire product is treated with anhydrides of aliphatic carboxylic acids until the printed areas are reserved during subsequent dyeing with direct dyes or dyed with insoluble acetate silk dyes. The possibility of increasing the reactivity of the cellulose by simple local swelling at the printed areas in such a way that results are achieved which are equal to those that were previously only achievable on rayon from reprecipitated cellulose could in no way be foreseen and undoubtedly has to be considered extremely surprising. Compared to the process described in British patent specification 203 704, according to which natural cellulose fibers * are first treated locally with swelling agents and then with aromatic esterifying agents, the present process shows significant><technical progress, as it enables: pure when over-dyeing with direct dyes to achieve white patterns.
As a starting material for the present process, for. B. Cotton, Cercerized cotton, ramie, linen or hemp in the form of yarns, skeins or fabrics can be used. The goods can be either undyed or with suitable, the acylation withstand dyes precolored for Application.
Suitable swelling agents are the known cellulose swelling agents Agents such as potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, calcium thiocyanate. Potassium and sodium hydroxide have proven to be particularly suitable. The swelling agents are used together with thickening agents such as tragacanth or British gum, optionally with additives of alkali salts of weak acids, such as potassium acetate, sodium acetate, Potassium carbonate, potassium sulfite, applied topically. This addition enables particularly sharp effects can be achieved. Becomes beneficial the printed fabric. dried before esterification.
The esterification itself is done by treating the locally preprinted Goods in suitable devices with anhydrides of aliphatic carboxylic acids, such as for example acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, chloroacetic anhydride, advantageous in the presence of an inert diluent such as gasoline, petroleum, Benzene, toluene, xylene, chlorobenzene, perchlorethylene, carbon tetrachloride, made, the reaction temperature and the duration of treatment vary within wide limits can.
The processing of the goods treated in this way can be done in the following way: the acylating liquid is thrown off, sucked off, squeezed off or through simply draining away, whereupon the goods with recovery of the volatile Components of the still adhering esterification mixture dried with water washed and dried.
The goods treated in this way differ in terms of color from the untreated goods in that the printed areas have a pronounced affinity for water-insoluble acetate silk dyes show direct-pulling cotton dyes however, reserve while the unprinted areas are exactly the opposite in terms of color behavior. By dyeing the locally esterified fabrics with suitable dyes multi-color effects can thus be achieved. Particularly Kgen-like patterns will be obtained if, for example, cotton wool in yarn form treated according to the process with untreated cotton yarn or any other textile material into fabrics and these fabrics are dyed with suitable dyes. Of course the cotton yarn obtainable according to the invention can also be used as a single effect thread use in fabrics of various compositions.
Example i A printing paste consisting of 100 parts of potassium hydroxide 5% and 100 parts tragacanth thickening °° / i111 is applied locally on cotton fabric printed. The printed fabric is dried and then at 9o to 95 ° C so long with a 5 to 10 percent solution of acetic anhydride in heavy fuel treated until the printed areas reserve direct dyes, leas after about i / 2 hour is reached. If higher temperatures are maintained, the treatment time can can be reduced considerably. The tissue is then recovered volatile constituents of the acetylation mixture dried, washed with water and dried.
B. CibacetgelbR Teig (Schultz, a. a. O., Bd.II, S. 6o), Cibacetviolett :2R Teig (Schultz, a. a. O., Bd. When dyeing the partially esterified fabric in a known manner substantive cotton dyes, e.g. B. with direct sky blue-greenish (Schultz, Dye Tables, 7th Edition, No. 5i0), the unprinted areas turn blue colored, while suitable acetate silk dyes, such as. B. CibacetgelbR dough (Schultz, a. a. Cit., Vol. II, p. 6o), cibacet violet: 2R dough (Schultz, op. Cit., Vol. II, p. 6i), only stain the esterified areas. To have a full reserve of white not In the latter case, a treatment with sodium hydrosulphite can be used to preserve the printed areas follow. By using both substantive cotton dyes and two-tone patterns are obtained from acetate silk dyes. i Example 2 A printing paste Consists of 50 parts of potassium hydroxide or 36 parts of sodium hydroxide, 50 parts Potassium acetate, 75 parts tragacanth thickening 81 / 1..o and 25 parts water, is mercerized Cotton thread applied locally. The cotton yarn is then treated further as in example i and then has the same coloring properties as that obtained according to Example i Tissue on.
If sodium acetate or potassium carbonate is used instead of potassium acetate, so will get a yarn with very similar dyeing behavior. If the acetic anhydride is replaced by propionic anhydride, then also shows here the yarn obtained has similar dyeing properties.
Example 3 A printing paste consisting of 50 parts of calcium thiocyanate, 5o parts potassium acetate, 3o parts tragacanth thickening e ° / @ ooo and 2o parts water, is locally printed on cotton sateen and the printed fabric continues Example i treated. The printed areas of the cotton fabric have diminished Affinity to substantive cotton dyes and can be mixed with acetate silk dyes to dye.
Beispiel q.Example q.
A printing paste consisting of 36 parts sodium hydroxide, 88 parts crystallized sodium acetate, 100 parts tragacanth thickening 11 / 1..o and 64 parts Water, is applied topically to cotton sateen and the fabric treated in this way is treated further according to Example i, but with the difference that the acetylation is carried out at io5 ° C. It becomes a color that behaves similarly. tissue as obtained in example i.
