Es ist das die sogen. Elfenbeinmasse, welche erhalten wird, wenn man die geformten Gegenstände entweder in geschmolzenes Stearin oder Paraffin eintaucht oder mit alkoholischen Lösungen der genannten Stoffe tränkt. Obwohl diese Masse vom künstlerischen Standpunkt manches zu wünschen übrig läfst, hat sie sich doch in Ermangelung einer besseren allgemein eingebürgert. Es ist nicht zu leugnen, dafs die so präparirten Gegenstände sich leicht von Staub u. dergl. reinigen lassen, dafs sie wesentlich härter sind als der reine Gyps; dagegen zeigen sie ein stumpfes Aussehen und einen unangenehmen Glanz, der den künstlerischen Eindruck wesentlich stört. Durch den Sauerstoff der letzteren verwandelt sich das zu den sogen, trocknenden Oelen gehörige Leinöl in eine durchscheinende feste Masse, welche die oben beschriebene Wirkung ausübt.
