Description
KAISERLICHESIMPERIAL
PATENTAPATENTA
Of the numerous processes that are intended to be used to convert gypsum casts into an air-resistant, To transform washable and harder mass, it is only one thing that is used on a larger scale. It is that sucked Ivory mass, which is obtained by looking at the molded objects either immersed in molten stearin or paraffin or with alcoholic solutions of the mentioned substances soak. Although from an artistic point of view this mass is too much leaves something to be desired, but it has failed a better generally naturalized. It cannot be denied that it is so Prepared objects can easily be cleaned of dust and the like, so that they are essential are harder than pure Gyps; on the other hand, they have a dull appearance and an unpleasant one Shine that significantly disrupts the artistic impression. In addition, the stearic acid penetrates only a little deeply into the mass.
On the other hand, the following simple procedure gives a mass of at least same hardness and resistance as the one described above, which is also due to Mere washing up is easy to clean, but also the Gyps up to a certain point Makes the depth translucent, giving the casts a stone-like appearance and gives them such a warm, artistically beautiful tone that one can do it with one believed to have done quite different, nobler material.
By carefully rubbing with soft leather or a silk cloth, you can give the objects a nice polish.
Das Verfahren ist folgendes:The procedure is as follows:
The plaster casts are completely poured over with linseed oil in a vessel and then gradually heated to a temperature of 70 to 90 0 and left in this way for at least 12 hours. After this time, the Gufs has soaked itself completely with the OeI; one takes it out now, cleans it of the externally adhering oil and leaves it simply to the action of the atmospheric air in a place protected from dust. The linseed oil, belonging to the so-called drying oils, is transformed into a translucent solid mass by the oxygen in the latter, which has the effect described above. This drying-out proceeds comparatively quickly; the characteristic smell of linseed oil soon disappears, and the objects no longer grease after a short time.
Instead of linseed oil, other drying oils, such as poppy seed oil, can of course also be used. Hemp oil, castor oil and the like can be used, but the first is recommended because of its Equity.
Although it is known that linseed oil can be dried more easily by cooking with metal oxides can make and thereby accelerate the process, so is the unprepared oil in every respect preferable because it gives a more even and nicely colored mass.
