Description

Process for the production of butanol by fermentation It is known Butanol by fermentation of sugary solutions, e.g. B. molasses mash to win, and it is also known that butanol, among other substances, is obtained from the sodium pulp production accruing and practically sugar-free black liquor through fermentation after weak Acidification occurs. When using sulphite waste liquor, which is known to be small amounts Containing fermentable sugar, however, as a fermentation liquid could be a satisfactory one Fermentation has not yet been achieved.

It has now been found that sulphite waste liquor with good success on butanol can be fermented if the waste liquor is mixed with a larger amount of alkaline earth hydroxide, than is necessary to neutralize the acidity of the waste liquor and the liquid obtained after separation of the precipitate formed Adjustment of the pH value necessary for fermentation and addition of nutrients inoculated with a preculture of butyl bacilli. By treating the waste liquors with excess alkaline earth metal hydroxide, e.g. B. 2% above that required for neutralization Amount, becomes a large part of the lignin sulfonic acid, which inhibits the development of butyl bacilli brought to precipitation, so that they by subsequent filtration and the like liquid to be fermented can be removed. At the same time the reducing goes Effect of the waste liquors in relation to copper solutions, but this is based Decline largely due to the disappearance of non-fermentable reducing substances from the solution, while the content of fermentable sugars is only insignificant impaired--. A preculture of butyl bacilli in a mash made from molasses, raw sugar, potatoes, corn, starch etc. can be used. The preculture can, according to an earlier proposal, by inoculating the Whole mash with spores of butanol-producing bacilli can be produced.

Man erhält je i cbm Sulfitablauge etwa 6 1 Rohbutanol, a das in bekannter Weise aufgearbeitet wird.Example Sulphite waste liquor is intimately mixed with milk of lime corresponding to an amount of 20 to 25 kg Ca0 (depending on its acidity) per 1 cbm waste liquor. The precipitate formed is filtered off and washed out. After neutralization with carbonic acid, the filtrate is inoculated with a larger amount of a preculture of a butyl bacillus in full fermentation after the addition of 0.5 kg of diammonium phosphate per 1 cbm of waste liquor. A 4% molasses solution is used for the preculture. Fermentation is over after 3 to ¢ days, whereupon the fermented mash is distilled using the warmth of the hot waste liquor coming from the digesters. About 6 l of crude butanol, which is worked up in a known manner, is obtained per 1 cubic meter of sulphite waste liquor.
