Device for the production of sponge iron by reducing iron ores
It is known that particularly favorable reaction rates when used
can be achieved by suitable carbon dioxide-hydrogen mixtures, since the
Reduction rate favoring carbon deposition from the C O and the
add the high reaction rate of the hydrogen, and that also in the gas mixture
obtained the same rate of reduction as when using H2 alone
remain. For this purpose, a carbon-hydrogen mixture with more than
30 "/, hydrogen, preferably with about 50% each of H2 and CO, proved to be suitable.
Such a mixture is technically available. Available in water gas or coke oven gas.
The invention relates to devices for carrying out this method.
So far, rotary ovens, tunnel ovens or so-called deck ovens, in which the loading
A stream of heated reducing gases is fed through a series of stages
Is used. Treatment of ores with gaseous agents is also known,
with the gases under a hood above the stored on an endless row of cars
Good can be introduced and discharged into a suction box located below.
While the latter devices relate to roasting processes, it is
after all, their use for reduction purposes has already become known. According to the invention
the reduction of iron ores to sponge iron in shallow tilting pans is similar
Type of construction such as are used, for example, for sintering ores, however
special facilities the heating of the feed, the reduction of the ore and
ensure that the sponge iron does not reoxidize and cool down.
The drawing shows one suitable for carrying out the method

kippbaren
Pfannen a bekannter Bauart.
in kurzer Zeit.
`Working with the devices according to the invention is carried out in the following manner. The tiltable pans a of known type are used to receive the iron ore. The pan is provided with a cover b which is connected both to an exhaust pipe line h and to the reducing gas line ei, e2 and the cooling gas line g, _ . The lines can be shut off using slides that can be locked. The pans are also equipped with a grid to support the ore. The space under the grate is connected to the suction line d1 and the fan i through the hollow pivot pin. To initiate the process, the reducing gas is passed under the grate of the ladle loaded with ore and burned here by supplying combustion air f, so that the combustion gases that sweep the ore on the grate heat the charge and bring it to the reaction temperature. The hot gases drawn off reach a gas preheater i for preheating the reducing gas. When the desired temperature is reached in your ore, a switch is made. Now after closing the vent and air valve and opening the gas valve, the hot, hydrogen and CO-rich reducing gas flows through the ore layer and reduces the heated oxide ore mixture to sponge iron in a short time. A fan sucks the gas through the hollow pivot pin through d, and pushes it through d2 to the second pan, where it is burned under the grate with the aid of air additive f, preparing the contents of this pan for the same process. After the end of the conduction, it is changed over; the game repeats itself. The sponge iron produced is cooled by sucking cold CO 2 exhaust gases through the line g2, which also fill the airtight bunker c under the pans and thereby prevent the sponge iron from coming into contact with oxygen. After the pan has been emptied by tilting it, it is removed from the bunker by means of locks o. The method is expediently carried out with three pans, so that one pan is charged, the other is heated, and the third pan is reduced. `
