Microphone circuit for echo sounding For determining the absolute altitude
echo sounding is used above ground on board an aircraft, which consists of
that the time required for a sound emitted by the aircraft is measured,
to return as an echo after reflection on the earth's surface. The one coming back
Echo wave is picked up by means of a microphone, which transmits the sound impulse
causes an electrical relay to act on a timer. So far one has
for triggering the relay by the microphone circuits are used, in which on
the grid of an electron tube is biased by means of a
Condenser microphone is affected by changes in capacitance. There are too
other circuits using resistance microphones have been used,
in which current fluctuations are converted into voltage fluctuations by inductive means
which in turn serve to actuate the relay. All of these known so far
Circuits suffer from the disadvantage that they either use relatively high microphone currents
require or that cascade amplification be required for the microphone current.
One that is free from these and other disadvantages and is particularly suitable for echo sounding
Circuit is created by the invention, which is essentially
indicates that the grid bias battery of the electron tube, in its emission current
the relay is on by a circuit containing the microphone
is short-circuited, or by the fact that the grid bias by means of a
Potentiometer is connected to the grid via the microphone. In the former case
the relay works with quiescent current, otherwise with operating current. In the latter
If the bias is expediently short-circuited via a very high resistance.
3 angelegt.
A convenient embodiment of the invention is shown in the figure
shown. i is the electron tube, the cathode i «of which is heated by the battery g
will. i ', is the anode; 2 is the grid. The emission current is through the anode battery
i o caused and is closed over the winding of the relay i i. To the grille
2 is the negative pole of the preload battery q. via the induction-free resistor
3 created. The potentiometer is useful for setting the grid pre-tension
5 provided. According to the invention
is the bias through the circuit
6 and the microphone 7 short-circuited. The microphone 7 is a resistance microphone,
which has a low resistance at rest, eo that the grid bias
is short-circuited when idle. The emission current escapes from the tube
via the relay i i, the armature of which remains attracted as long as that
Microphone is not energized. If, on the other hand, the returning echo wave hits the
Microphone, the microphone resistance increases instantly so much that
it outweighs the resistance 3 many times over. The short circuit of the preload battery
by the circle 6 is canceled and the grid 2 with the full bias
loaded. This weakens the emission current of the tube so much that the relay
i i lets go of its anchor and thereby causes the timer to switch. at
In this embodiment of the invention, the relay is used in closed-circuit current.
Another embodiment of the invention results from interchanging
of the resistor 3 with the microphone 7. Since the resistance of the unexcited microphone
is small in relation to the resistance 3, is in this case in the unexcited
Apply full negative bias to grid 2 of the tube so that the relay
i i is not receiving any power and the armature is not attracted. If the microphone is excited,
so its resistance outweighs the resistance 3 many times over, so that. now the
positive bias voltage across the resistor 3 becomes effective. As a result, the emission current continues
the tube amplifies and brings the relay i i to respond.
