Verfahren zur Darstellung von Anhydriden niedermolekularer gesättigter
einbasischer Fettsäuren Die thermische Spaltung von Essigsäure in Essigsäureanhydrid
-und Wasser ist bekannt (Bulletin de 1a. Societe Chimique de France Serie q., Bd.
Process for the preparation of anhydrides of low molecular weight saturated monobasic fatty acids The thermal cleavage of acetic acid into acetic anhydride and water is known (Bulletin de 1a. Societe Chimique de France series q., Vol. 31, p. 113). It is also known that the cleavage can be accelerated with certain catalysts, but that the presence of metals, coal and most oxides must be avoided because these substances cause a profound decomposition of the acetic acid vapors with the formation of methane, carbonic acid and acetone ( Patent 408,715). The view expressed in this patent with regard to the oxides is supported by British patent 237 302, in which a number of oxides are mentioned as catalysts for the reversible conversion of acetone and carbonic acid to acetic anhydride.
In the compounds of several acidic oxides, the so-called
complex acids such as phosphotungstic acid, phosphomolybdic acid, boromolybdic acid
etc., for the thermal production of acetic anhydride which takes place at over about 500 °
found very excellently suitable catalysts from acetic acid. This complex

can also only be produced in the reaction vessel itself. Means. of complex acids,
acetic acid is split far more completely into anhydride and water than by means of
of the individual components. But it is not necessary for the complex acids
