Abstract

Garden waste shredders are provided with a blade housing (1) arranged on a frame (4) which bears the drive motor (2) and a charging funnel (14) and surrounds a lower ejection space (5) and in which there is a blade carrier disc (7) which is to be driven in rotation about an essentially vertical axis. Said blade carrier disc is provided with essentially radially extending passage slots, flat blades (10) arranged above the latter in the manner of cutting knives, and an upright, is provided centrally arranged pre-cutting blade (11). Furthermore, a counterbearing insert (13) is provided in the blade housing (1), said insert having a lower counter-cutter, which interacts with the flat blades (10), and a gate-like recess which engages over the pre-cutting blade (11) and has an inner counter cutter which interacts with the latter. In order to avoid the pre-cutting blade mechanism of the garden waste shredder being adversely affected or even blocked by relatively strong branch material, in the intermediate space located between the pre-cutting blades (11), a filler element (F) is arranged which at least partially takes up the lower area of said intermediate space and serves to limit the depth of cut, slots for the passage of woodchips also being provided between said filler element and the pre-cutting blades (11), which slots extend in the opposite direction from the direction of rotation of the pre-cutting blades. <IMAGE>
