kohlenstoffhaltigen Massencarbonaceous masses
Patentiert im Deutseben Reiche vom 28. Februar 1932 abPatented in Deutseben Reiche on February 28, 1932
When cleaning water with carbon-containing adsorbents such as activated carbon, there is often rapid damage and the associated ineffectiveness the cleaning compounds, their periodic chemical regeneration, if necessary the thermal reactivation of which makes it necessary. The same appearance is also on other carbon-based cleaning agents such as Grudekoks o. The like. To be observed.
According to the literature it is sometimes assumed that the symptoms of fatigue the charcoal is due to the deposition of silicic acid or silicic acid salts, and it it has therefore already been proposed to temporarily use solutions of alkalis for the coal Treating purposes of regeneration. There is also a temporary regeneration of the coal Acids have already been suggested.
According to the invention, the fatigue of the coal during operation is a priori avoided or largely held back. 'Namely, it has been found that the effectiveness the carbon-containing cleaning compounds is extended to a considerable extent if carbonic acid is distributed in the water to be purified before it is treated. The amount of carbonic acid required depends on the amount needed for the treatment Water and can be determined from case to case by experiments. A limitation However, upward is given to the extent that the total content of free carbonic acid is appropriate is dimensioned so that an attack on the material from which the lines, etc. for the water are produced through which carbonic acid cannot take place.
The carbon dioxide can be introduced into the water in a number of ways. she can then either be distributed in the water in the form of pure carbonic acid, but it can also carbonated gases are introduced in the same way. You can also use the water Feed in a water rich in free carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide can also be used in the Water can be created by adding substances to the water that react with the water or make carbonic acid free with the substances contained in the water. E.g. you can by adding acids, for example hydrochloric acid, from those present in the water Carbonates or bicarbonates generate carbonic acid.
Das chlorhaltige Wasser wurdeThrough two filters I and II of the same size and type, containing activated carbon from ι mm grain size, water was filtered for the purpose of dechlorination, which has a chlorine content of about 0.5 mg / l. The chlorinated water was

dem Filter I direkt zugeleitet. I. In the chlorine-containing water flowing into the filter II on the other hand, 15 to 17 mg / 1 carbonic acid by means of a distribution device in front of the filter added. Under exactly the same test conditions, the filtrate from filter 1 showed about 2 months a chlorine content of about 0.1 mg / 1, while the filtrate from filter II was still practically chlorine-free at the same time.
Drinking water sterilized with chlorine was filtered through two filters I and II connected in parallel, which were filled with a 2 m high layer of granular activated carbon. The water contained about 110 mg of bound carbonic acid (as carbonate or bicarbonate) and had a residual chlorine content of 0.7 to 1 mg / l. The water . was fed directly to the filter I, whereas 10 mg / l of hydrochloric acid were added to the water that was fed to the filter II. The dechlorination performance of both filters was monitored under exactly the same test conditions, such as flow rate, temperature, etc. After about 20 weeks, a chlorine breakthrough of 0.1 mg / l was found in the filter operating without the addition of hydrochloric acid, so that this filter had to be switched off for regeneration. Filter II, on the other hand, showed a completely satisfactory dechlorination performance even after 45 weeks. A carbon sample taken from both filters after a running time of 20 weeks showed that the carbon from filter I was heavily silted up or loaded with impurities. The ash content of this was from previously 4 to 10.6 ° / 0, the other hand, increased the coal from Filter II to just 4.9%.
