Description
The perchlorate produced when emptying perchlorate ammunition is heavily contaminated with organic nitro compounds, namely dinitrobenzene (about 3 to 5 percent).
In this condition the perchlorate can be used for further use. In particular for use as an explosive component, it is necessary that the dinitrobenzene content is reduced to below 1.5 percent. This purification is now, however, due to the water solubility of the Bizol so far only very cumbersome and has been expensive to perform by the extraction route.
PATENT-ANSPRUCFI: It has now been found that such a purification can also be achieved in a simpler way, if one takes advantage of the fact that the perchlorate and the majority of the dinitrobenzene are in an intimate mixture and also adhere to one another, but in separate presence, -der contained individual crystals as such in the resulting product and also the large ones. Perchlorate crystals are heavier than the fine dinitrobenzene needles. It is therefore possible by appropriate treatment, for. B. by flooding with water to gain a perchlorate that can be used for further processing z. B. is suitable as an explosive component. In order to avoid material losses, it is advisable to use a liquid instead of water for this type of treatment, which does not dissolve perchlorate. Exemplary embodiment Impure perchlorate is flushed using cold, saturated aqueous perchlorate solution over a cascade-shaped washing device. The perchlorate crystals separate from the Aden Dinitro benzene needles. The latter are collected in a filter along with part of the perchlorate dust and fed back into the plant for the "recovery" of the impure perchlorate, while the lye is used again to wash away additional quantities.
