Process for the preparation of -Glycolic Acid It -is known organic
Acids to be separated from impurities by lowering them into the esters
Alcohols (methyl, ethyl alcohol, etc.) transferred, are low-boiling and therefore
easily fractionated esters are distilled off, whereupon they can be saponified
the free acid can win pure. The meaning of this measure is therefore temporary
Transfer of the acid into a body that can be easily distilled off; just in one
of the esters mentioned.
innerhalb kurzer Zeit, dagegen erfordern die A.nhydrate etwas längere Exhitzungs.dauer,
The present invention is used to obtain pure glycolic acid
: also made use of their esterification, but this results in a whole
other purpose. The production of glycolic acid, be it by way of cyanohydrin
with subsequent saponification, be it by: electrolytic means through reduction
the oxalic acid or finally by the reaction of chloroacetic acid with alkali
namely ultimately to a syrup from which the crystallization of the rhyme
Glycolic acid takes place only with difficulty. In many cases it does not even take place.
It has been found that the difficulty in crystallizing this crude glycolic acid
once on their content of anhydrates of glycolic acid, such as glycolide, glycolic glycolic acid,
Diglycolic acid and the like can be 'attributed', but also to the presence
of hydrochloric acid and its alkali salts. The subject-matter of the invention is now, from such
with crude glycolic acid called syrups the -Glycolic acid in pure, crystallized '
To gain shape. This is done with the advantage that one uses the crude glycolic acid
with alcohol, expediently with absolute, reflux: heated, if the syrup
does not yet contain hydrochloric acid from its production, expediently gaseous hydrochloric acid
(about i to 2%) is initiated. The esterification of the glycolic acid takes place:
within a short time, on the other hand the hydrates require a somewhat longer exheating period,
to .a. uniform product, the glycolic acid ester.
Since water is split off during the esterification, it is advisable to dilute it
to avoid the use of dehydrating agents. As you can see,
The measure described does not concern the separation mentioned at the beginning
an organic acid of impurities through their esterification, but rather,
the anhydrates added to the crude glycolic acid together with the acid itself in one
uniform body, the glycolic acid: ester.
;äquivalente Menge fester calcinierter Soda zu.After the esterification, the alcohol is first distilled off and
then the ester in vacuo. Any residue left in this process will be to him
of inorganic companions such as Na Cl, N H4 Cl and the like,
to separate,
taken up with alcohol and given back for esterification. Should the distilled
Esters still contain hydrochloric acid, they are used to neutralize them
; equivalent amount of solid soda ash to.
The ester is expediently on: a column with constant stripping
of the split off alcohol is saponified with water in the heat, and then is
in a vacuum at a moderate temperature, the now pure glycolic acid solution for crystallization
evaporated. The mother liquor obtained after the pure crystals are filtered off with suction exists
mainly from glycolic acid and only to a small extent from weakly anhydrated
Products. It is completely free of inorganic impurities and can therefore be used in
can be added back to the saponification stage for further processing. From time
at times this syrup is used in order to increase the concentration of highly anhydrated products,
such as glycolide, polyglycolide, etc., to prevent the process in the esterification stage
fed.
