Description
Compound Internal Combustion Engine The invention relates to a composite internal combustion engine with exhaust gas turbine as the second expansion stage and with one driven by the latter Pre-compressor for the load. It consists in the dimensions of the exhaust pipe between the internal combustion engine and the exhaust gas turbine and the inlet cross-section in the latter are chosen and the outlet of the combustion cylinder in time is controlled so that the pressure of the exhaust gases in front of the turbine during the first Period of exhaustion increases above the boost pressure, towards the end of the expulsion or rinsing but drops below the boost pressure, such that on the one hand in the mean pressure of the exhaust gases sufficient working capacity of the turbine to drive of the supercharger is available, on the other hand between the outlet and inlet period of the combustion cylinder by keeping the inlet and outlet open at the same time an additional flow of parts of cold charge through the cylinder into the turbine is possible. By increasing the pressure in front of the turbine during the first time period, a higher turbine output is achieved. This will it is possible to deliver more charging or purging air or air at higher pressure to compress, in the case where the turbine has the supercharging or scavenging air compressor or both drives. Because of the lower pressure in the combustion cylinders at the end of the exhaust process, it is nevertheless avoided that at the end of this process a large amount of exhaust gas remains in these cylinders, reducing the amount of newly introduced Charge would only be heated and also reduced in size. The beginning of the outflow of one Cylinder must take place so late that the creation of the lower pressure! In beforehand exhausting cylinder is not prevented.
So muß z. The dimensions of the pipes leading the exhaust gases to the turbine can be chosen so that the lowest pressure in front of the turbine, at least at certain Loads, is lower than the pressure of the pre-compressed cargo. In this case each combustion cylinder can then be flushed with a new charge. It must then only care must be taken that the inlet and outlet organs of the same Combustion cylinders are open at the same time during the flushing process and that Exhaust element of the cylinder that is subsequently used to exhaust the combustion gases only opens so late that the pressure does not rise too quickly to prevent the flushing effect takes place in the line to the turbine. The tax times are depending on the number of in to relocate the same pipe exhausting combustion cylinder accordingly. So must z. B. in four-stroke four-cylinder machines the opening of Inlet organs of the combustion cylinder earlier and the opening of the exhaust organs - temporally take place later than has previously been the case with conventional four-stroke engines especially when the pressure is as low as possible towards the end of the exhaust stroke want to achieve.
If more than four to five cylinders, namely one in four-stroke working machine, exhaust into a common line to the turbine, so can it occur, especially at higher loads, that the lower limit of the exhaust gas pressure in front of the turbine does not adjust itself under the boost pressure, or for too little long can by the exhaust processes of the individual combustion cylinder too quickly follow. In order to improve this disadvantageous situation, several lines from the combustion cylinders to the turbine such that, for example, three or more Cylinder each have a common exhaust pipe. The arrangement becomes appropriate chosen so that those cylinders' exhaust into a common line, whose Exhaust processes follow each other at the same time intervals if possible. This becomes a Uniform charging, flushing and exhausting of the individual combustion cylinders achieved, and also the operation of the turbine becomes cheaper - different - exhaust pipes can open into one or more turbines.
The drawings show the operation and arrangement of machines, which work according to the same, illustrated.
Fig. I shows the pressure curve in the cylinders of a four-cylinder four-stroke internal combustion engine on a greatly enlarged scale over two complete revolutions of the machine.
Fig. 2 shows the arrangement of the cranks on your crankshaft.
Fig. 3 is a representation of the pressure profile in front of the turbine, and Fig. 4 shows the valve lobes of the inlet and outlet control members of the four-cylinder engine.
Fig. 5 is a schematic representation of an 8-cylinder four-stroke engine with two exhaust gas turbines, and Fig. 6 shows the arrangement of their cranks on the main shaft, and FIGS. 7 and 8 show particular designs of exhaust gas turbines.
I, II, III bzw. In Fig. I, the pressures in the combustion cylinders are shown with the lines pi shown. I, II, III and IV are the four cylinders in the order they are lying next to each other. In them, the work processes follow one another according to the numbers i, 2, 3 or 4th, in such a way that every process changes after every 180 ° rotation of the crankshaft repeated.
Fig. 2 shows the position of the cranks of the internal combustion engine in a longitudinal and side view, so that the individual processes occur at equal time intervals repeat.
Let us now trace the pressure curve in cylinder III (2) in Fig. I, thus combustion and expansion take place from 0 to 180 degrees. Before reaching the i8o ° the exhaust pipe opens. The dimensions of the supply lines to the turbine are dimensioned according to the invention so that now the exhaust pressure from the moment of The exhaust system does not open suddenly, but rather slowly at the further shaft rotation over i So decreases towards 36o °. In Fig. I it is assumed that this pressure drops a little lower than the boost pressure, which then in the course of the Suction stroke before 36o to 18o ° shaft revolution occurs during the second revolution. During the further rotation of the machine from i 8o to 36o °, the one in the cylinder existing cargo compacted again. The end of compression and combustion and the beginning of the expansion is not shown by the lines pi, by one to avoid too small a scale. The combustion can be similar to an explosion, like a combustion - under constant pressure or in some other way.
Rufladung handelt.Fig.3 now shows the effect of the chosen mode of operation on the Pressure in the exhaust pipe. By i8o ° with the first drawn machine revolution around, d. H. shortly afterwards, the pressure p2 rises sharply in the same, and then against 36o ° below the call boost pressure p, to fall. Then around 36o ° the same begins Process again, which is now caused by the exhaust gases flowing out of cylinder IV is, etc. p, represents the atmospheric pressure in Fig. i as well as in Fig. 3, which expresses that it is a machine with. Call charge acts.
If one now considers the valve lift curves a », and b @ j, of cylinder III (2), of which the former is that of the exhaust pipe and the latter represents that of the inlet organ, one recognizes that shortly before 180 ° the first When the engine turns, the exhaust pipe opens, only to come back again after about 36o ° close. At this moment, as can be seen from FIG. 3, the pressure in of the exhaust pipe again to rise above the charging pressure p, as the exhaust element of cylinder IV, according to the elevation curve old, has previously opened and the gases flowing into the exhaust line have increased the pressure there again. in the Moment when the pressure p2 falls below the pressure p1 during the first machine revolution, can now, as shown by the opening curve b ", the inlet member in the cylinder III to be opened. This organ remains until after the suction stroke has ended opened about 180 ° of the second machine revolution. Between the first and second Machine rotation before or after the crank angle 36o ° can be opened at the same time of the inlet and outlet organ flushing take place by new charge, in so far as then the Pressure p, is higher than p2, as shown in FIG. 3. This flushing period is in the opening curves of the inlet organs b "b", b ", or b, v in each case by horizontal Hatching highlighted.
26 bzw. 27 sind die Auspuffleitungen dieser Turbinen. In Fig. 5 an 8-Zy cylinder four-stroke engine is shown. I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII and VIII are the eight cranks of the main shaft i i. io is the machine frame on which the combustion cylinders are attached, 13, 1d., 159 16, 17, 18, ig and 2o are the covers for these cylinders. In the figure are now only the exhaust lines i3 @, i., i5 @, i6 @, ij @, i8 @, ig @ and 2Ö, which the Lead exhaust gases from the combustion cylinders to the turbine, shown. The supply lines for the charge air are omitted, as they only impair the clarity would. The exhaust lines of four cylinders each, i. h of I, IV, V and VIII resp. 1I, 11I, IV and VII, now each open into a common line 21 or 22, which in turn each lead to a special turbine 23 or 2: f. Both turbines 23 and 24 work on the same shaft 25, by means of which work, for example can be done externally. 26 and 27 are the exhaust lines of these turbines.
In Figure 6, the crank positions and the firing sequences are in the Cylinders entered, analogous to Fig. 2. It can be seen from this that the exhaust lines, which open into a common manifold 2i or 22, belong to the cylinders, which have cranks located in the same plane, same as with the is also shown in Fig. 2 crankshaft. The firing orders in these cylinders so each follow each other in iSo ° shaft rotation; the firing order of the other four cylinders also, only they are offset by go ° compared to the others.
Instead of two turbines, only one can be arranged, as shown in FIG Fig. 7 is shown. 21 and 22 are again the two feed lines to the only one Turbine 23, for example with two inlet cross-sections that are separate from one another. 25 is the shaft of this turbine.
Or two turbines can be arranged, which, as in FIG represents, to be assembled, such that all axially acting pressures cancel each other out. This turbine has two entry points 28 and 32 into which the gases pass through the separate supply lines 21 and 2-. The left and right arranged turbines also consist of two impellers 2g and 31 or 33 and 35 and one intermediate stator 3o or 3q .. get out of the turbines the exhaust gases in the lines 26 and 27 and from there directly or through other devices into the open. The impellers sit on a common shaft 25. Instead of two assembled Turbines could also be provided with two independent turbines.
The invention can also be used when working according to the two-stroke process Machines are applied. Since there the outlet and inlet periods are much shorter in time persist, l can exhaust more cylinders into the same exhaust pipe with these, without the back pressure in front of the turbine not being set as low as possible to allow the combustion cylinder to be flushed through.
