Description

Process for treating cork for use as a building material aggregate It is known that one can extract lignin and resin substances from plant tissues or wood solutions of caustic alkalis or other hydrolytically split alkali salts used in the heat. In doing so, one achieves an almost absolute development of the remaining cellulose from the encrusting ingredients.

It is a known fact that natural cork is not immediate Use in setting building materials because on the one hand the free acids, on the other hand, resin and similar saponifiable constituents have a decomposing effect on the binder works.

Attempts have also been made to use cork as a building material surcharge for processing to prepare: However, the known procedures have not caught on since they either did not extract enough of the cork or they overbased it. In The former occurs due to the harmful residues remaining in the cork said decomposition of the binding agent, while also an incrustation of the cork does not protect, which also the most essential property of the cork, its elasticity, ineffective, makes. Otherwise, the excess alkalis lead to a more extensive one Attack on the cork base, causing this to begin with in its chemical The structure is shaken and reactions can be triggered whose products cannot only have an adverse effect on the concrete mass, but also the cork mass make themselves less durable, so that the excess of alkali in the washing process can be removed, but the broken ground mass in its new chemical Properties now expresses adverse effects on the building material.

The aim of the present process is to prepare the cork for use in Making construction usable.

Man gibt dann wieder in kleinen Mengen, z. ä.According to the new process, the substances that interfere with setting are to be removed from the cork in their analytically determined quantities, so that all other fillers remain in the cork that do not go into solution in this metered attack. The following is used as an example: A cork, extracted with alcohol, had an acidity of 1 8.2. Calculated for this degree of acidity, a certain amount, e.g. B. consume some solid caustic potash on ioog cork. If you boil 1 kg of cork with 20 g of caustic potash dissolved in about 20 liters of water, you will find after a while on cork samples that have been taken out that the acid has not yet completely disappeared. One then gives again in small amounts, e.g. B. 3 to 5 g, caustic potash added until the acid has completely disappeared on further examination of the extracted samples. The result is a cork whose mechanical structure has not been shaken, but which has lost all of the properties of natural cork that are dangerous for the building binders4. Water glass, carbonates of alkalis, etc.
