Description

Method of making tubular hollow cores During manufacture of hollow steel blocks, e.g. B. for rolling seamless steel tubes are advantageous refractory tubular body as. Cores used for the hollow block, in which there is very much exact shape matters. Another requirement of these cores is that on the one hand they must be strong enough to withstand the pressure of the liquid steel to withstand, but on the other hand their strength should be so small that the Contraction of the cooling block, destruction of the core tube takes place, otherwise the core is difficult to remove from the steel pipe or cracks in the steel pipe can arise themselves.

It has already been proposed to manufacture such tubular cores from a refractory mass which is compressed by the shrinkage pressure. The manufacture of these cores in the usual manner of the manufacture of refractory bricks is, however, relatively expensive, in particular due to the necessary burning of the mass after it has been shaped. However, it is very important to manufacture the cores as cheaply as possible, since each core can only be used once as a result of its destruction. The subject of the invention is a process for the production of cores for steel and cast iron pipes, which is particularly economical and cheap in that the tea-set refractory pipe bodies can be used in the unfired state. According to this process, the cores consist of a mass of chamotte and liquefied binding clay, which is manufactured according to the Haiiptpatent487 zio. The essential thing in the production of this mass consists in this. that the binding clay is not added to the chamotte in a finely ground dry state or dissolved in water, but that it is previously mixed with the well-known alkaline, etc. Additives is converted into a castable state. This pourable clay slip is then added to the chamotte and intimately mixed with it. The mass produced in this way is deformed by beating, tamping or pressing by hand or by machine or in any other customary manner, the finished tubular bodies being used in the unfired state. The mass according to the main patent 487 1 10 is characterized by high strength even in the unfired state, so that firing is unnecessary for the present purpose. This of course saves a lot of working time. The other aforementioned requirements of such cores are also met to a high degree by the indicated mass. It is already known to use fireclay moldings produced by the method described above in the unfired state for installation in furnaces and the like, the final solidification of the stone taking place during operation of the furnace without excessive shrinkage of the stones, as is the case with moldings produced according to the previously customary process would be the case.
