Description

Methods for improving rubber goods. It has been found that higher molecular weight, monohydric aliphatic alcohols with more than eight carbon atoms, the so-called fatty and wax alcohols, in the rubber industry and its relatives Industries can be used to advantage, as they are primarily used as softeners, Accelerators and anti-aging agents work. One achieves in processing and processing of rubber, rubber compounds and the like. A particularly favorable one Result, if, depending on the nature of the starting materials, these are appropriate Amounts of these alcohols mixed in. A relatively lower amount is sufficient here Addition of fatty or wax alcohols to get these mixtures quickly to the desired level Bring degree of softness. The physical properties of such manufactured Mixtures are particularly favorable for further processing. In addition, these work higher molecular alcohols but also as an anti-aging agent by providing a preservative Have an effect on the rubber and thereby good storage of the finished product vouch for. In the case of appropriately prepared mixtures, the additives mentioned can also be used also act as a vulcanization accelerator. The alcohols mentioned can either alone or in the form of their mixtures or in conjunction with other bodies for Application.

So erhält man z. B. ein tadelloses Fertigprodukt, wenn man einer Kautschukmasse beim Verarbeiten 5 bis to °/a Dodecyl- oder Octodecylalkohol zusetzt. So you get z. B. an impeccable finished product if you have a rubber compound when processing 5 to% / a dodecyl or octodecyl alcohol is added.

Bestreicht man z. Besides the specific effect of the higher molecular alcohols These alcohols are also capable of processing and processing rubber a preservative effect through superficial application on rubber finished goods exercise. If you coat z. B. a slightly aging finished product, such as canning rings, or semi-finished goods, such as easily perishable regenerated material or regenerated material mixtures, with a solution or a liquid mixture of such alcohols, e.g. B. with a Mixture of octodecyl alcohol and octodecenyl alcohol, so forms on the surface the treated rubber mass forms a film that already in a wafer-thin layer the premature Prevents aging and, above all, counteracts the harmful formation of cracks.

Among the many substances that have been used to improve rubber products have been recommended, there are also certain cyclic alcohols.

Among other things, it is proposed to use gutta-percha with 2o to 40% Wool fat cholesterol or wool fat fuse to make them electrical for insulation Make lines more suitable. So it is a special purpose. That, moreover, the rubber by adding larger amounts of wool fat in its valuable Properties, particularly with regard to elongation, strength and aging, are quite unfavorable being affected, is known in the rubber industry. Even at The use of small amounts makes this inconvenience - usually uncomfortable noticeable.

In contrast, the rubber is treated with monovalent, higher molecular alcohols according to the present invention even lower when added Quantities significantly improved in quality.

It has also been proposed to use finished rubber products to increase the To coat shelf life with a terpineol emulsion. At a re-examination the alleged protective effect did not materialize. The untreated goods showed even less cracking than that treated with terpineol emulsion. The after treated the present process with higher molecular weight, aliphatic alcohols Comparative sample, however, showed no cracking. This also shows the superiority of the present invention, but not only a surface improvement, but primarily the improvement of finished rubber products by improving the blends self-intended.
