Elliptical slewing gear with centrically rotating work piece and steel moved in this way Attack edge is always obtained normal to the ellipse.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 30, August 1877 ab.Patented in the German Empire on August 30, 1877.
The purpose of the device described below is: on an ordinary lathe i. to accurately machine the curved surfaces of elliptical cylinders (e.g. the Side surfaces of elliptical flanges), and 2. the flat end surfaces of such bodies in the shortest possible time Time to turn plan or to provide elliptical grooves; d. H. the purpose is: to move the tool (turning tool) relative to the workpiece in an ellipse, and this to be changed continuously by a switching device. The attacking cutting edge must of the steel are always normal to the ellipse. For the sake of simplicity, and for most cases not a hindrance, there is the restriction that all ellipses produced by the apparatus have equal differences between the major and minor axes. This difference can only be changed by replacing a certain part (eccentric).
The work piece is clamped firmly on the faceplate of the lathe in such a way that that the axis of the elliptical cylinder coincides with the axis of the lathe; it therefore rotates uniformly from right to left.
The steel s is clamped parallel to the bench axis, but not immobile, as in turning a circle, but eccentrically in a round disk e, which rotates at twice the angular speed of the faceplate and in the same sense as it is around yours Height as the bench-ax rotates center point. This eccentric e is mechanically connected to the faceplate in such a way that whenever the small axis of the ellipse is horizontal, the eccentricity ρ is also horizontal, namely towards the bench axis. This connection is achieved by shaft and gear wheels, the arrangement of which can be seen in full from the drawing.
The ellipse E, which is now described by the point of application of the steel (the end point of the eccentricity) on the workpiece, has the following dimensions: large half-axis a = the distance r of the center of the eccentric from the bench axis -) - the eccentricity ρ; small half axis b - r - Q.
The eccentric e is mounted in a bearing g that can be displaced by the screw /; by turning this screw, the distance between it and the axis of the bench is changed, and consequently the ellipse as well; but since the eccentricity ρ remains unchanged, all ellipses thus generated have the same axis differences, namely equal to four times the eccentricity (2 [a - b] = 4 ρ).
Diese Schraubenspindel t ist nun mit der oben erwähnten, zur Verschiebung des Excenters bestimmten Schraube f, mittelst zweier kleiner Stirnräder u ν in einer Uebersetzung von 1 : 2 verbunden, so dafs, da die Ganghöhen derAlthough the steel is mounted in the eccentric so, that he movement of the end point of the eccentricity i perform PUFA, but can also rotate about its axis; this is necessary so that the attack edge can always be kept normal to the ellipse. The steel is therefore initially firmly clamped in a round sleeve h , so that its axis ii, that is, the parallel to the bench axis passing through its point of application, coincides with the axis of the sleeve; but the axis of the can coincides with the eccentricity i . This sleeve h is now always held in the correct position by the following device. In its front end, a round bar is k tightly screwed (parallel to the leading edge), which by means of a sleeve / is compelled to always go through a certain point in to, and this point located at the height of the bank-axis is from the Excentermitte always as far away as this from the bench-axis; therefore, for geometric reasons, the axis of the bar is always normal to the ellipse, and with that the cutting edge of the steel. So that the mentioned equality of these distances (VJ takes place), there is the following device: The sleeve / rotates around two pins, which are located on a sleeve η that can be moved on the transmission axis m η ; a cross member p is screwed into the lower side of this sleeve , at the end of which an eye q with an internal thread comprises a screw spindle t ; by turning this the eye, and with it the sleeve and the bushing / are displaced. This screw spindle t is now connected to the above-mentioned screw f intended to move the eccentric , connected by means of two small spur gears u ν with a ratio of 1: 2, so that the pitches of the
