Description
Preparation of colloidal manganese dioxide solutions It is known that one colloidal manganese dioxide in aqueous solution of water-soluble manganese salts can win in the presence of a protective colloid by oxidation (see Patent 24.8 526); but such solutions are very unstable. Will they be without the presence of Protective colloid produced, so they flocculate immediately. But also in the presence of smaller ones Large amounts of protective colloids cloud them quickly and settle out. Now attempts have shown that stable solutions of colloidal manganese dioxide are obtained when the oxidation of Manganese salts takes place in the presence of salts of polyvalent organic oxyacids.
Löst man z. If you solve z. B. o, ¢ g of crystallized manganese sulfate in 40 ccm of water, add 0.8g sodium perborate dissolved in 160 ccm water and dilute the whole thing 4.oo ccm with water, colloidal manganese dioxide is formed when heated, but that flocculates immediately. However, if one has previously o, q. g Seignette salt is added, so it stays the solution clear for several hours.
The experiment described is carried out in the presence of 3.2 g of dextrin without Seignette salt, turbidity and flocculation occur despite the presence of dextrin, and the manganese dioxide is partly deposited after 16 hours. However, the attempt will in the presence of Seignette salt or the salt of another polyvalent organic Oxyacid carried out, the solution remains perfectly clear. Example 400 cc one 10% manganese sulphate solution is added to a mixture of 800 cc a 0.5% solution of Seignette's salt and 160 cc of a 0.5% sodium perborate solution allowed to flow. In order to be able to dry out the end product and to be able to dissolve it again so much dextrin was added to the whole that it contained 10% dextrin. Then will cooked until the oxygen has escaped. Can be used to remove the electrolytes then dialyzed and the solution, if desired, concentrated.
Example e 40 cm of a 100% manganese chloride solution are found under constant stirring to a mixture of 400 ccm 0.5% sodium perborate solution and 400 ccm of a 0.5% sodium borocitrate solution. Then so much will be Lysalbic acid soda added so that for every 1 g MnO.5 g lysalbic acid soda come. The whole thing is heated until the oxygen has escaped. In order to remove Electrolyte can repeatedly ultrafiltered the solution and the removed liquid be replaced by water or another appropriate solution.
Any water-soluble divalent manganese compound is suitable as the manganese salt. Any water-soluble solution that is effective in a weakly alkaline solution can be used for oxidation Oxidizing agents are used in a suitable concentration. Instead of the Examples specified tartaric or citric acid salts other water-soluble salts of polyvalent oxyacids are used. Instead of of the dextrin given in the examples or of sodium lysalbinic acid also any other protective colloids, such as. B. soluble starch, gum arabic, Proteins or others are used.
It is not necessary to strictly adhere to the prescribed concentrations or to keep the order of the mix.
The most suitable one will in each case be chosen for the reaction.
Heating for the purpose of oxidation can be any suitable level of temperature can be made.
The protective colloid can be dry or dissolved at lower or higher Temperature to be added to the solutions.
The amount of the additive is made depending on the expediency. Depending on the intended use it is free to leave the electrolytes or crystalloids in the solution or they in any suitable manner, including z. B. by electro ultrafiltration or Electrodialysis or by precipitation to remove the colloids from the mixture.
The manganese dioxide solution mixed with the protective colloid can be used with a suitable lower or higher temperature in air, in a vacuum or in any other suitable atmosphere in an expedient manner concentrated or evaporated will.
