Description
Process for preventing the coagulation of aqueous solutions of Cellulose alkyl ethers A number of cellulose alkyl ethers is characterized by the Property of being soluble in cold water. If you heat up such solutions higher temperature, coagulation occurs, i. H. excretion of the cellulose alkyl ethers from the aqueous solution.
In many technical processes, the aqueous alkyl cellulose solutions use, especially for those where it is important to get the wet out quickly to remove the solution, for example when casting foils, also everywhere there, where such solutions should remain stable even at higher temperatures the coagulation is very disturbing.
It has now been found that the coagulation of aqueous alkyl cellulose solutions at a higher temperature can be avoided by adding small amounts of these solutions partially or completely water-miscible organic hydroxyl-containing solvents clogs. For example, one adds approximately to a thousand cellulose solution in water too, o alcohol too. If you pour such a solution onto a glass plate, you can dry to a film at about 8o to 9o C without coagulation occurs, while without the addition of alcohol the cellulose ether is already at about 15 to 4o "C precipitates out of the solution. Instead of alcohol, for example the following organic hydroxyl-containing compounds are used: methyl alcohol, Propyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, glycol, glycerin, methyl glycol ether, acetol, etc. The proportions in which these compounds are added to the cellulose ether solution can fluctuate within wide "limits. With the help of this procedure, the The drying time of the cellulose alkyl ether film can be significantly shortened.
