Barrel testing apparatus with rubber cone The invention relates to a
Apparatus for testing barrels for leaks by means of an air pump, namely
on an arrangement in which the apparatus means in a smooth bunghole of the barrel
Rubber cone is used for the purpose of sealing through the head of a continuous
Pressure tube is compressed in the axial direction. According to the invention calls-
the head of the pressure pipe does not just have an axial compression of the rubber cone
but also has a spreading effect on the bottom of the rubber cone
attached, radially outwardly yielding lugs, which are after
Spread apart on the surface of the pressure pipe head and so with
This form a rigid abutment against the tearing out of the apparatus. Opposite to
known arrangements in which the seal is only achieved by axial compression
the rubber cone is caused, the main advantage is achieved that the
Rubber cone is less stressed and tearing out the apparatus, though
the testing device is used as a handle when handling the barrel, for sure
is prevented.
In the drawing is an embodiment of an apparatus according to
the invention shown Fig. r shows the apparatus in longitudinal section before and at the
Insertion into the barrel, Fig.2 in the state of attachment in the bunghole.
durch Schlitze a getrennte Lappen n angeschlossen.
The pressure tube e of the hand air pump i is provided with a thread at t and has a head f with an expanding surface q and a pressure surface p at the lower end. The upper metal frame r of the rubber cone b is easily rotatable in the base of the handwheel d. At the bottom of the rubber cone b a number of interrelated tabs n separated by slits a are connected. After the apparatus has been inserted into the bunghole c (Fig. 2) with the rubber cone in the state in Fig. Z, the pressure pipe e is screwed upwards by turning the handwheel d until the head f approaches the rubber cone b at the bottom. When turning further, the surface p of the head f presses against the corresponding counter surface g of the rubber cone b. Since the surface o of the rubber cone is pressed downwards at the same time, the rubber cone is axially compressed and lies tightly against the inner wall of the bunghole. The rubber folders n are spread apart by the area q of the head f. The rubber flaps n lie on the surface q and thus form a rigid abutment with the head f to prevent the apparatus from being torn out.
