Process for refining, in particular for mercerising vegetable products
Woven fabrics The subject of the present patent is an innovation in fiber refinement,
as it is caused by the swelling of vegetable fibers under the action of alkalis
or acids. In particular, the method is for improvement
the mercerization of vegetable tissues. It is known that the mercerizing effect
in general, the lower the temperature of the mercerizing liquid, the better
is what is probably due to being at low temperature
can achieve the swelling effect to a better and more complete extent, without the .degrading
To fear the influence of the mercerizing liquid on the fiber material. The higher
the temperature the mercerizing liquid is, the faster the destructive one sets
Influence on the fiber material, and it will eventually swell due to the degradation
the cellulose in the fiber material is overtaken. One has therefore already at different baths
tries to improve the mercerization process or,
a prolonged action of the mercerizing liquor makes it possible in the first place that one
the mercerization bath itself has cooled more or less deeply. It is also known
to cool the lye when one-sided mercerising of strained
Tissues during the application of the lye instead of or alongside the latter
To cool the application roller itself or the counter roller from the inside.
In all of these mercerising processes, the liquor was cooled down
overlooked that both in the action of the lye on the fiber and in the
Stretch a not inconsiderable heat development takes place, so that by the
Cooling of the lye, the heat of reaction generated in the fiber. not or only insignificantly
could be compensated.
The process described below for refining, in particular
for mercerising plant tissues, now indicates a way of reducing both the heat of reaction,
which arises during the alkali impregnation, as well as that during the stretching of the
eliminating the heat generated by lye fiber material, and thereby enables the
Implementation of the finishing in continuous motion. For the production of transparent
and linen effects by means of mercerization below 0 ° C, the process is not suitable.
The method is according to the invention that the tissue after soaking
with the swelling liquid (lye or acid) and then. Squeezing the same still special
is cooled with stretching that, for. B. lye tissue in the stretching field over cooling surfaces
be guided.
Arbeiten erreicht. The method can e.g. B. for fabric webs are carried out in such a way,
that the fabric soaked with or in lye, pressed and then passed over cooling rollers
from which they run through the stretching field of the neutralizing device.
This process alone has the great advantage that no longer the total amount
the lye, but only the amount of lye contained in the goods has to be cooled
and the web of fabric as a result

The temperature can be maintained as if only as since then the total liquor has been cooled

The heat generated by the fabric, but also by the stretching of the lye-covered goods
the resulting heat is destroyed as soon as it arises. It will be both a
substantial improvement of the mercerization effect as well as an economically good one

In
Exemplary embodiments for the implementation of the new method are given in Figures i and 2, namely Figure 1 shows the use in chained piece mercerising machines, Figure 2 shows the use in tension chain piece mercerising machines. In Fig. I, a, a1, a2 are the stretching rollers, b, b1 are the chill rollers. In Fig. Z, the web of material guided between the known clip chains runs along the cooling bodies c, cl, e2 with cooling surfaces.
b, bl geführt wird (Abb. i).In so-called chained mercerising machines, in which the stretching field consists of spreader rollers, cooling is expediently brought about by guiding the fabric web between two spreader rollers (a, a1, a2) over a cooling roller b, bl (Fig. I).
2).In chain mercerising machines, in which the stretching field is divided by two
is formed in the direction of diverging clip chains, are expedient
under or over the length of fabric or on both sides flat heat sinks c, cl, c2
attached (Fig. 2).
