Description

Process for the production of "elemental sulfur from hydrogen sulfide-containing Gases The dry cleaning of the luminous gas from Hydrogen sulfide is based on the conversion of hydrogen sulfide with iron oxide and the subsequent oxidation of the resulting iron sulfide with atmospheric oxygen, whereby the iron regenerates again to iron hydroxide and the sulfur in elemental form Form is excreted within the mass. The slowness of the reaction requires if it is to lead to complete elimination of hydrogen sulfide, large rooms and large amounts of iron hydroxide in the form of lawn iron ore or lux mass. The retired Sulfur is also not pure and therefore does not become a pure commercial product through extraction processed, but mostly only burned to sulphurous acid by roasting.

Another process is based on the oxidation of hydrogen sulfide through air in contact with active charcoal.

It has also been suggested to use sulphurous acid rather than air To apply oxidizing agent, so that one is a mixture of the desulfurized Gases with sulphurous acid in the stoichiometric ratio over active charcoal. However, this method has the disadvantage that the content of the gases in hydrogen sulphide is not always the same, so that the equivalent amount of sulfur dioxide to be admixed would just be difficult to dose. Any excess would have to be cumbersome Way to be removed again.

The subject of the invention is a process according to which the mentioned reaction 2 H. S + SO 2 = 3 S -E- 2 1-120 is carried out with an excess of SO 2 which is adsorbed in a known manner by a large-surface body. One works in such a way that one z. B. S 02 -containing gases leads over a large surface body and saturates it with S 02, then passes the gas to be cleaned over it. The hydrogen sulfide contained in the latter reacts quantitatively according to the above equation and disappears from the gas by being oxidized to elemental sulfur and being deposited within the large-surface body. The cleaned gas together with the excess, partly with outgoing sulfur dioxide, is brought together again with the large-surface body in a second reaction chamber, where it is preferentially adsorbed so that the gas can be fed to its further utilization both free of hydrogen sulfide and free of sulfur dioxide. As soon as the concentration of the sulfur dioxide in the first adsorption vessel has become too small, the gas flow is diverted into an adsorption vessel which is newly saturated with sulfur dioxide. By switching the adsorption vessels accordingly, it is achieved that the gas is completely cleaned of hydrogen sulfide. The large-surface body, saturated with elemental sulfur, is freed from sulfur in some known way and recently saturated with sulfur dioxide, whereupon the process of oxidation takes place again. Grudekoks, for example, which can be loaded with sulfur dioxide up to a high concentration, can be used as a large-surface body.

The gas, after it has been freed from light oil, is advantageously the Subject to the desulfurization described, since in this case the adsorbent itself not loaded with light oil, but available for hydrogen sulfide oxidation remain.
