Process for the production of pure potassium magnesia sulfuric acid by means of carnallite and kieserite in concentrated solutions at ordinary temperature.

Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 7. Juli 1878 ab.Patented in the German Empire on July 7, 1878.

To an Epsom salt liquor of 1.198 spec. Artificial carnallite is added by weight and air temperature until the clear lye above it has a spec. Shows weight of 1.270. The decomposition takes place with stirring in any vessel which is provided with a light stirrer for this purpose. After the decomposition has taken place, the precipitate of crystallized sulphate of potassium magnesia (K 2 -S 1 C 4 + - Mg SO t + 6 aq) is allowed to settle and it is swung to dryness in a centrifugal machine, after the caustic above has been removed.

This procedure is new and peculiar in that, on the one hand, the formation of pure crystallized sulphate of potassium magnesia from chlorine potassium and sulphate of magnesia, which bodies are present in the kainite in the appropriate stoichiometric ratio Cooking happened, on the other hand, from the boiling dissolution of Epsom salts and carnallite always potassium chloride and then only to a lesser extent potassium magnesia sulfuric acid precipitates.
