Description
Process for the preparation of emulsions of bituminous substances The manufacture of road surfaces using sodium silicate as a binder for the common Road building materials (e.g. calcareous) are known.
The road surfaces produced by this process have - however the disadvantage that they are not completely free of dust.
In order to prevent dust formation, attempts have already been made to use the To tar the silicate ceiling, but tar is z. Currently scarce and its use unpleasant (the dirty work requires heating the tar and a dry road). The tar is therefore troublesome; In addition, the tar does not adhere well to the silicate one Cover, which is also the case when using the known bitumen emulsions.
Bitumen emulsions are also used as binders for road building materials used. These emulsions, which are known to be in the cold and even on Wet roads can be processed by stirring the bituminous raw material with water in the presence of an emulsifying agent in special mixing devices manufactured. Waterglass solutions and soaps are generally used as emulsifying agents or by using alkaline substances such as water glass, saponifiable fats. These Emulsifiers are often used in the production of the road surface itself Completely superfluous fillers represent the active substance content of the emulsion decrease accordingly. Incidentally, soaps and other soluble substances are removed from rainwater washed out of the finished road surface. Most of all, however, impaired the required free alkali content the smoothness of the road surface and increases the tendency of the emulsion to flocculate.
The invention now relates to a process for the production of Emulsions of bituminous substances, tars, heavy oils and the like, or mixtures these substances, in particular for road construction purposes. These substances are in the liquid Conditions without the addition of saponifiable fats and the like with a sodium silicate solution that is as neutral as possible mixed, which has approximately the same specific weight as the dispersion materials.
In the preparation of the emulsion, it is expedient to proceed in such a way that the sodium silicate solution slowly and with constant stirring to the to be emulsified Adding substances. When using solid bituminous substances or a mixture with a high content of these one works in the Warmth, at Use of liquid oils and tars, on the other hand, at normal temperature.
.In order to obtain stable emulsions, it is known to be desirable that the two phases of the same have approximately the same specific weight. In the present case, this requires the use of a sodium silicate solution high concentration. This has to be done in order to keep the alkalinity low and cause flocculation to avoid the emulsion by the alkali effect, according to the invention a relatively large quotient si0 # Na # Ö, which should be greater than 3. You would namely use a commercially available sodium silicate solution in which the quotient S'02 roughly corresponds to the N -., 0 number 13, the production of a stable emulsion would be which results in smooth road surfaces, not possible because of the specific weight too low and the alkalinity would be too high. .
In order to further increase the flowability and stability of the emulsions and the smoothness of the pavement produced with them, natural or synthetic fats which cannot be saponified from the sodium silicate used under the given working conditions, for example in the form of lactones, can be added to the emulsions, for example in the form of lactones with intramolecular ester bond (see B ernthsen, Organische Chemie, 1921, page 252) or Degras (see Fahrion, Zeitschrift für angewandte Chemie, 1903, page 67q., lines 28 to 33) or catalytically (e.g. with the help of of manganese resinate) oxidized fish oils.
In contrast, the common sulfur-containing oils increase or hygroscopic bodies (molasses, algae, etc.) the flowability only at the expense the durability of the road building material.
The tars contain ammonia-containing compounds and acids, which strive to convert the silicate into gelatin and destroy the emulsion. To avoid this, the tar may be treated beforehand, for example with soda, which drives out the ammonia and neutralizes the acids.
The emulsions obtained are particularly stable and can as a result their good flowability in a very thin layer, for example by pouring on, spread over a surface. You can also use them to make Use mixtures.
The emulsions are applied in the customary manner without prior application Heat. The bituminous top layers dry quickly and also adhere to silicate substrates very firm, resistant, impermeable to water and, above all, very supple.
The method according to the invention offers the further advantage that it does not require special stirring machines in its execution, since the formation of the emulsions already takes place when the individual components are mixed.
Accordingly, the starting products can only be used shortly before processing the emulsion are mixed.
