Filters for cleaning gas for engines It is already proposed
to increase the filter area of filter fabrics by giving the fabrics a
are conical in shape, but have these filters for a given filter area
still very large dimensions.
The invention aims to avoid this disadvantage. She relates
focus on a filter for cleaning gases and consists of a filter cloth
in concentric folds forming frustoconical surfaces in one
Housing is arranged with a removable cover. This arrangement enables a filter
to obtain that with a very small volume and consequently small dimensions
presents a very large filter surface.

As can be seen in Fig. 1, the filter cloth x is frustoconical and has a bottom 2 with a hole 3 on the smaller diameter a cover 5 is formed, and the housing and cover are held by a strut 6 at the desired distance from each other. A disc 7 is screwed onto the strut 6 and has a diameter smaller than or equal to that of the bottom 2 of the cloth. The strut 6 extends through the disk in such a way that it also extends through the hole 3 of the cloth and finally through the bottom 8 of the housing 4. By means of a nut g screwed onto the threaded end of the strut 6, the disk 7 can be locked against the base 8 so that the base 2 of the filter cloth is clamped between these two organs. The cylindrical part of the housing 4 has the shape of a ring io the same diameter as the largest end of the truncated cone i, and the filter cloth is attached to this ring io by a clamping ring ii. The housing 4 and the cover 5 carry a plurality of rings 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16, which are carried by suitable devices, such as struts 17. The rings 12, 14 and 16 are carried by the bottom 8 of the housing 4 and the rings 13 and 15 by the cover 5. As soon as the cover 5 assumes its working position on the housing 4 and has been fastened by the strut 6, the ring systems 13 and 15 engage between the ring systems z2, 14 and 16, and the length of the struts 17 and 6 is chosen so that the filter cloth or the tissue is then held taut by the rings 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16. It is then sufficient to accommodate the whole thing in a container 30 in such a way that the bottom 8 of the housing 4 here forms a tight partition. The container 30 is provided with a gas inlet pipe 18, a gas outlet pipe ig and a lid 2o. In the housing 4 and the cover 5 holes 21 and 22 are provided for the free gas circulation. The bottom 8 of the housing 4 can, in order to achieve the desired seal, simply be arranged on an inner seat 23 of the container 3o, in which case a spring 24 lying between the cover 2o and the cover 5 pushes the housing 4 with the cover 15 downwards against the Seat 23 presses. This arrangement enables the filter cloth to be accommodated in a very small space, and the filter cloth can be completely assembled in the workshop and then installed. Installation is very quick and the filter cloth can be cleaned easily. For this purpose it is sufficient to lift the lid 2o of the container, remove the housing 4 with the lid 5 and lift the lid 5 from the housing 4, whereupon the filter cloth i, as Fig. 3 shows, is exposed and can be tapped easily.
In the illustrated embodiment, the gases flow through the filter from top to bottom, but it is evident that the direction of flow could also be changed. For the latter purpose it is sufficient either to provide a spring 24 which offers sufficient resistance to the pressure of the gases or to attach this spring below the filter so that the latter is supported against a shoulder of the cover. Finally, the housing 4 with the lid can also be fixed in the container 30 by any other known method.
