Abstract

The intaglio printing plate has a ceramic substrate (1) with recesses (2) defined by webs (3) of equal height, to give a regular and unified screen pattern. The screen is formed by a laser, with removal of molten matter from the shaped structure. The screen recesses are filled selectively by ink jets, according to the images to be printed, using a low viscose printing medium, which is hardened within the screen by polymerization using ultra violet light. The ink jet system delivers droplets of 20-40 mum diameter into the screen, by digital scanning of the original material to determine the screen filling according to tonal qualities. The substrate is covered by a protective layer to prevent leakages through its porosity. After use, the ink material is removed for the plate to be used again.
