Abstract

In an electromagnetic relay, the connection elements (12, 14) of a contact system (10) are embedded in blocks of laser-absorbent PBT which has the rating V-0 required by standard UL 94. These contact supports (18) are arranged on a relay base body (40), which comprises laser-transparent plastic, such that the connection elements (12, 14) pass through apertures (41) in the base body (40), and are tightly connected to the base body (40) by means of irradiation laser welding. The apertures (41) are larger than the cross sections of the connection elements (12, 14), so that said connection elements do not make contact with said apertures. The laser-transparent plastic of the base body (40) therefore does not have to meet the standard which applies to the contact support (18). During the welding process, the contact system (10) and the coil system (20) of the relay are located in an orientation guide (30) which positions the parts relative to one another, so that the adjustment which is otherwise required can largely be dispensed with.
