Abstract

The invention relates to a braking and/or clamping device, which at least partially surrounds a rod (1) that can be displaced in relation to said device. The braking and/or clamping device comprises at least one wedge gear comprising a wedge (41) that can be displaced at least approximately parallel to the rod and a ram (43) that can be displaced at least approximately radially to the rod, an actuating device that acts on the wedge and a release device that acts on the wedge. The actuated ram presses a clamping sleeve against the rod in a radially pre-stressed manner. In addition, at least one part of the expansion joints of the wedge gear are configured to reduce friction. The invention provides a braking and/or clamping device, which produces a high clamping force with a compact construction.
