Abstract

A replacement helical spring (2) forms part of an automotive shock absorber assembly and is presented for re-assembly in a non-tensioned condition. The spring is placed under tension for re-assembly by a compression tool (3) with an integral threaded spindle (4) with two end plates (7, 8) whose position relative to each other is varied by rotation. The plates further incorporated peripheral detents (30, 54) on their inner faces (24, 49) that engage with the spring tips.
