Abstract

A power switch has a central switching pin (3) that fits into a fixed contact. At the centre of the pin is a spring loaded element (30) with a tip (29) that normally seals the contact area. When the switch opens arcing occurs and gas pressure rises. If the pressure level exceeds a limit the centre element moves to open a path (28) for gas to escape.
