Description

Process to prevent the evolution of hydrogen in galvanic Baths The observation was made especially in the case of nickel-plating that in this Small holes arise, the origin of which is partly due to soluble, organic substances returns, but mostly blames the hydrogen for it. Consequently has one made greater attempts specifically to avoid such errors, i.a. also used hydrogen peroxide. It turned out that Hydrogen peroxide, added to the bath in small quantities, is capable of eliminating the disturbances temporarily eliminate it by apparently both the organic matter as well as oxidizing the hydrogen and thereby rendering it harmless. A big mistake of these additives, however, is that the decomposition of the hydrogen peroxide is proportionate goes on quickly, since it is well known that hydrogen peroxide is already active of light decays, which has already been adequately explained in various articles is.

Since the effect of hydrogen peroxide can, on the other hand, be called a very favorable one, it makes sense to use products that display similar properties. There are also preparations in solid form such as the products known under the trade names Hyperol and Perhydrol with 35 percent by weight of hydrogen peroxide and tablets that also have the same amounts of hydrogen peroxide, but the carriers of hydrogen peroxide are usually not advantageous when used in galvanic processes. Attempts have now led to the use of a body which, strangely enough, has remained very unknown. This is toluenesulfochloramide sodium, referred to commercially as Chloramine T from the company Heydene or Mianin from the company Fahlberg-List. In contrast to hydrogen peroxide, this product decomposes very slowly in the presence of bodies that are capable of oxidation, so that, in contrast to hydrogen peroxide, a pure solution of this product can also be boiled.

After the decomposition, toluenesulfoamide is formed, a chemically quite indifferent one Connection, plus table salt and oxygen. The presence of table salt interferes with Galvanic processes also not, as in a number of galvanic baths Table salt is used with success. This sodium toluenesulfochloramide can do just as well can be used for both alkaline and acidic baths. In the scope of the invention The use of sodium toluenesulfochloramide for chrome-plating baths does not apply.
