Device for regulating the size of the focal spot in hot cathode x-ray tubes
The invention relates to a device for regulating the size of the focal spot
Incandescent cathode x-ray tubes and aims to adjust the focal spot according to its respective
To increase or decrease the load automatically. With the previous hot cathode x-ray tubes
an unchangeable focal point is created either with the help of a hot cathode,
or it was possible to use two hot cathodes to make two different ones
to produce large focal spots, usually either sharp or faint
resilient focal point or a considerably larger, heavily resilient focal point.
The X-ray tubes of the latter type naturally have the defect that they only
can work with two extreme focal points without the possibility of a transition
between the two sizes of the focal point is given. Apart from that, the
Switching the X-ray tube after it has been adjusted to the patient
from one focal point to the other cumbersome and annoying.
unausführbar is.Furthermore, devices are known which serve to reduce the size of the
Adjust the focal spot by certain charging of the collecting device. With these
Facilities makes the regulation the operation of a special rheostat
or the installation of a special mechanical switching device is necessary. Proposed
are also arrangements in which a focal point control when the tube current changes
by changing the field between cathode and collecting device by means of an between
High voltage source and anode arranged and connected to the collecting device
Resistance should take place. Such an arrangement leads without special aids
however, to such technical difficulties that they are practical in this form
is impracticable.
According to the invention, the generation of focal spots is different

In the figures are two embodiments of the device according to
of the invention shown schematically. In the embodiment according to Fig. I is
one end of the secondary coil of the high-voltage transformer i directly
the anode 2 of the X-ray tube 5, while the other end via a resistor 3
to the hot cathode 4 of the X-ray tube
connected. The hot cathode
q. is surrounded by a collecting device 6 which is attached to it and is insulated from it. the
In this case, the collecting device must not have the resistor 3 with the hot cathode
are in electrically conductive connection, because of the voltage drop that occurs in the resistance
3 arises according to the respective operating current strength, the collecting device
would charge in the sense that with increasing tube amperage it would collect in its collecting effect
is supported. However, according to the invention, there is an increase as the tube current increases
of the focal spot is to be achieved, it is necessary to first remove the collecting device
to be connected to the hot cathode via a current-reversing means.
For this purpose, a three-electrode tube 7 is provided with
its hot cathode 8 is connected to the end of the resistor 3, that of the hot cathode
q. the X-ray tube 5 faces, while the grid 9 is at the other end of the resistor
lies. Furthermore, the anode = o is directly conductively connected to the collecting device 6.
Further, in the anode circuit of the three-electrode tube 7, there is an anode battery
16 connected in series with an invariable resistor z =. In this circuit
the three-electrode tube 7 represents an invariable resistance that corresponds to
the current source 16 and the invariable resistor = i as a potentiometer in such a way
cooperates that the collecting device 6 with increasing strength of the X-ray tube current
a growing positive potential is supplied. This positive call charge of the
But collecting device 6 caused by its electrostatic action on the
electrons rushing past it increase with the tube current
Weakening of the effect of the collecting device and thus an automatic widening
of the focal point.
in leitender Verbindung steht.
In the device according to Fig. 2, the secondary coil is in turn
High-voltage transformer i with one end directly to the anode 2 of the
X-ray tube 5 in connection, while its other end via the primary winding 12
a transformer 13 with one of the power supply lines of the hot cathode 4 of the X-ray tube
is in a leading position. The second power supply to the hot cathode q. is
connected to the secondary winding i ¢ of the transformer acting as a commutator.
The secondary winding = q. is short-circuited in itself by a resistor 15 and
lies with that end on the collecting device 6, which you with increasing tube current
a positive call charge compared to the hot cathode q issued.
