Neuerung an Gasbatterien.Innovation in gas batteries.
Patentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 28. November 1888 ab.Patented in the German Empire on November 28, 1888.
The present innovation relates to such gas batteries in which the electrolyte, which is liquid at ordinary or moderate temperature, impregnates a porous, non-conductive material which is impermeable to gases in the sewn state and which is covered on two opposite outer sides with a substance which absorbs the gases to be used, and in which the chemical process consists in the decomposition and regeneration of the electrolyte and the resulting chemical combination of the gases used. The invention aims to generate a long-lasting constant current by means of such gas batteries. Is the electrolyte z. B. from dilute sulfuric acid and the gases to be used are hydrogen and oxygen, the sulfuric acid is split into H 2 and SO 11 under the influence of the electrical cutting force Contact effect of the absorption material with the formation of water; on the side exposed to the hydrogen electrode separates the Jon SO 4, and combines with the absorbent material there in the uncondensed hydrogen to form sulfuric acid. The sulfuric acid is thus, as it were, moved continuously towards the hydrogen electrode and the water towards the oxygen electrode, and since the diffusion of liquids takes place only slowly in the porous material, they gradually occur. the two electrodes introduce differences in concentration in the electrolyte, and these result in an increasing decrease in the electromotive force of the elements.
This inconvenience can be remedied, and a long-lasting constant current can be achieved in that the gases are exchanged from time to time, and as a result of this the changes Electrolyte accumulated on one electrode returns to the other electrode to remove it to be accumulated again here, etc. This exchange of gases can take place automatically be effected, namely alternately BEZW for each individual element of the battery. Group of elements, or in the whole battery at once. In the former case with the help of the necessary switching device, one obtains an indefinitely long-lasting one constant current; in the second case, on the other hand, the battery must be used with every gas change for a few minutes of activity, in order to give the gases an opportunity give to repress.
