Fatentirt im Deutschen Reiche vom 6. Februar 1889 ab.Fatentirt in the German Empire from February 6, 1889.
The original form of the! Differential manometer, as it z. B. von Krerz on the Paris exhibition in 1867 (Dingler's Journal, 1868, vol. 190, p. 16), presents a two-legged glass tube, both legs of which are expanded at the top. The two Legs are filled with two different, immiscible liquids, one of which is usually colored. The point of contact between the two liquids becomes in the narrow part of one of the. Legs relocated and serves as a brand, their . Rising and falling can be observed on a scale behind it.
This arrangement has the disadvantage that the equilibrium of the fluids is in. the two legs is disturbed at the slightest inclination of the instrument. These The shift in the equilibrium position will be less for a given inclination, the smaller the distance between the centers of gravity of the two liquid columns.
This consideration caused the inventor to construct an instrument in which the two legs of the communicating tubes come to lie not next to each other, but within each other, so that the one Legs concentric from the other, one liquid concentric from the other is surrounded.
The tubes consist of an upper further part A and B and a lower narrower part α and b. The outer tube is also provided with an extension C at the bottom. The inner tube is inserted into the neck E of the outer tube by means of a glass stopper D which is attached to its upper tapered end b 1 and which has a small opening d. The outer tube is closed at the bottom, but the inner one is open, so that liquid can pass from one tube into the other. The filling of the instrument with two different, immiscible liquids is carried out in such a way that the point of contact of the two liquids, which serves as a mark, is transferred into the narrow part of the inner tube, where it forms a sharp meniscus.
The upper tapered end of the inner tube is attached by means of a rubber hose or in otherwise suitably connected to the room, its positive or negative gas pressure should be measured. The mark rash can be attached to one behind the same Scala can be read.
Because the center lines of the two legs coincide in one line, the The focal points of the liquid columns are close together in this center line, tolerates the new instrument deviations from the vertical position and quite considerable even movements and fluctuations without changing the position of the mark will.
Diese Eigenschaft erweitert die Anwendbarkeit des Differentialmanometers ganz bedeutend und gestattet genaue Zug- und Druckmessungen mit dem frei in der Hand gehaltenen Instrument und auf bewegtem Standort, wie auf Schiffen oder anderen Fahrzeugen;This property extends the applicability of the differential manometer quite significantly and allows accurate tension and pressure measurements with the free-hand instrument and on a moving location, such as on ships or other vehicles;
Da bei der vorliegenden Anordnung des Differentialmanometers die Flüssigkeit des einen (äufseren)'Schenkels die Flüssigkeit des anderenSince in the present arrangement of the differential manometer, the liquid of the one (outer) 'thigh the fluid of the other
Extension C at the lower end of the outer tube serves this purpose. This enlargement has to take up the specifically heavier and possibly colored liquid, which is also located in the lower part of the inner tube up to the mark and so cannot disturb the observation (which would be the case if the colored liquid were to fill the whole outer tube) .
This specifically heavier and possibly colored liquid is then discussed in the second specifically lighter and uncolored liquid on both legs of the instrument layered.
If, on the other hand, the specifically heavier liquid is colorless and transparent, the lower extension C could indeed be omitted if (as in the older device of the differential manometer) one leg is completely filled with one and the other with the other liquid. This arrangement would, however, have the disadvantage that if the various liquids evaporate unevenly, the correctness of the instrument would soon suffer, so that for this reason, too, the arrangement of an enlargement at the lower end of the outer tube made possible the overlapping of the heavier with the lighter liquid on both sides should be seen as a major improvement.
