Extraction of metal or metal compounds Metal-containing minerals
with strongly basic constituents can known with a solution that besides
an ammonium salt, such as ammonium sulfate, ammonium carbonate etc: contains free ammonia,
be worked up. If the raw materials contain the metals to be extracted,
like copper, nickel, cobalt, zinc, etc., also silver, it was mostly used up to now
an ammonium chloride solution containing free ammonia. Such a way of working
has the disadvantage that for the conversion of the basic components, e.g. B.
Lime, in the corresponding chlorides, such as calcium chloride, a large part of the applied
Ammonium chloride is uselessly consumed; the process then works all the more uneconomically,
the more basic components the material to be leached contains.
The same disadvantage is shown with the already known leaching
of, in particular, lime-rich ores with ammonium carbonate alone; also here can a
complete leaching of the metals contained in the starting material, as at all
the extraction of z. B. silver from silver-containing materials cannot be achieved.
Mengen an gewinnbaren Metallen enthalten.
It has now been found that it is far more advantageous in all cases
can leach if you use an aqueous ammonium salt solution, in addition to chloride
still contains carbonate and optionally free ammonia. That way you can
z. B. easily win the silver from silver-containing materials without z. B.
Lime goes into solution and ammonium chloride is converted as a result. Works best
one with an ammonium chloride solution, which from the beginning already has one of the amount of lime
Corresponding amount of carbonate and advantageously contains free ammonia, or one
leaches with a pure ammonium chloride solution and conducts during leaching or
afterwards in the solution carbonic acid, expediently carbonic acid-containing exhaust gases, and optionally
at the same time gaseous ammonia. The advantages of this way of working are evident
especially when processing materials that have a lot of lime and very little
Contain quantities of recoverable metals. With such starting materials it was after
the methods that have been used since then almost impossible to obtain a lye that one
has a sufficiently high metal content for further processing. According to the present
The process does not cause any problems to enrich the metals in the lye,
because the chlorammonium content only decreases slowly with repeated use of the lye
and undesirable substances such as calcium chloride cannot get into the lye.
That
Procedure; can be carried out at ordinary temperature, but recommended
it is, with poorly soluble substances. for faster leaching at elevated temperature
and possibly also to work under pressure.
Beispiel Gemahlener Mansfelder Kupferschiefer mit einem Gehalt von
3 Prozent Kupfer, T Prozent Zink, 0,03 Prozent Nickel, 0,o2 Prozent Kobalt,
Example Ground Mansfeld copper slate with a content of 3 percent copper, T percent zinc, 0.03 percent nickel, 0.02 percent cobalt, 0.015 percent silver and 13 percent lime (Ca0) is roasted in a weak red heat with sufficient air supply. The roasted material is then treated with an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride at a temperature of 80 °. Sufficient amounts of gaseous ammonia and carbonic acid are added during the leaching process. Go percent of the copper and 60 to 70 percent of the other metals are dissolved without calcium chloride passing over into the lye. With this method of working, the ammonia consumption is only about a third of what would be required when working without carbon dioxide.
