Aktivierung von Kohle unter gleichzeitiger Gewinnung von Schwefelkohlenstoff Es wurde gefunden, daß beim Behandeln von Kohle oder Kohlenstoff enthaltenden Stoffen mit Schwefeldämpfen oder schwefelabspaltenden Stoffen bei erhöhter Temperatur, beispielsweise bei 8oo bis iooo°, eine Aktivierung der Kohle unter gleichzeitiger Bildung von Schwefelkohlenstoff eintritt. Die Kohle wird so lange dieser Behandlung ausgesetzt, bis sie aktiveEigenschaften angenommen hat. Wenn dies eingetreten ist, wird der Prozeß unterbrochen. Durch passende Wahl der Ausgangskohle, ihrer Korngröße, der Temperatur, der Dauer der Schwefeleinwirkung und der Konzentration der Schwefeldämpfe, welche beispielsweise durch inerte Gase oder Dämpfe wie Stickstoff, Schwefelkohlenstoff o. a. variiert werden kann, hat man es in der Hand, aktive Kohlen bestimmter Eigenschaften zu erzielen.
